wow...really?...so much to do from relaxing, tv, read, blog, laundry, clean etc....lol

How can you end check-in time at 6 pm, that seems so early?....We do 4-8 pm, but then we do have some up to 11 pm..

We have a 3-3:30pm check in time. This is clearly conveyed to our guests "so we can be sure we are on site to check you in as being a small property we do not have a 24 hour reception". If guests have late flights in we provide a self check in arrangment.
Whilst we do live on site we got very tired of "waiting". Guests would arrive at our locality. Go shopping, sightseeing or visit friends...meanwhile we are "waiting". We still get the slackers every once in a while. However having this policy has really helped.
We will phone a guest if they are not here by 4:30pm.

11 PM??? I have had 3 AM and 3:30 AM. 11 PM and Midnight? I am grateful - especially if they request a 8 or 9 AM breakfast

We used to end at 7; then we smartened up years ago and set the time at 6. Give them an inch, they will take that mile. Mostly folks make 6 or call us. We will usually stretch to 7 if alerted, otherwise we call them, and keys are left.

Last night 4 of the 6 rooms checked in by 6pm, barely, one was 615pm. The others all had a self check ins, one was after midnight. (Yes I had four notes on the front door last night)

One thing about having this new music venue here - none were here for that last night btw, even though it was a grammy award winning artist. But they are here on time, settled and gone til 11pm. (And this is how I am able to walk to the show as well, when they are there too and no one is left at the B&B).
That is one perk of having guests, mostly one nighters for this new venue in town. "When it is their dime, they are on time" you can quote me on that one.

Amen, we did the same. Changed our check-in from 7 to 5.30. The stradlers are still there but it is nowhere near as bad.

Yes, and we actually get to eat an uninterrupted dinner at a reasonable hour before dragging ourselves to our third floor owner's quarters! Set a limit, and they will come. We also have a small note above our doorbell that says: Check In 3:00 to 6:00. The late stragglers are quite apologetic when they see it... especially if we wait a minute or two before rushing to open the door... they're relived to see us let them in! And those who arrive earlier than 3, are more appreciative to have an earlier check in IF we are able to accommodate them. They start the conversation, we know we're early, but.... instead of feeling entitled. Others drive up, look at the sign and drive away and are back at 3 or later. Life is soooo much simpler these days and guests less disgruntled.

Our check-in was 2-6, and we found ourselves hanging around until 6 or later. Changed it to 2-5, and now we get people racing into the driveway at 4:59, "We made it!" Just like kids, give them a limit and they will push up against it. We're happy, they're happy, uninterrupted dinner and early to bed.
I swear the amount of psychology involved in inn keeping...
