How can you end check-in time at 6 pm, that seems so early?....We do 4-8 pm, but then we do have some up to 11 pm...
11 PM??? I have had 3 AM and 3:30 AM. 11 PM and Midnight? I am grateful - especially if they request a 8 or 9 AM breakfastdms121761 said:How can you end check-in time at 6 pm, that seems so early?....We do 4-8 pm, but then we do have some up to 11 pm..
We used to end at 7; then we smartened up years ago and set the time at 6. Give them an inch, they will take that mile. Mostly folks make 6 or call us. We will usually stretch to 7 if alerted, otherwise we call them, and keys are left. How can you end check-in time at 6 pm, that seems so early?....We do 4-8 pm, but then we do have some up to 11 pm...

Amen, we did the same. Changed our check-in from 7 to 5.30. The stradlers are still there but it is nowhere near as bad.Momma Smurf said:We used to end at 7; then we smartened up years ago and set the time at 6. Give them an inch, they will take that mile. Yes, and we actually get to eat an uninterrupted dinner at a reasonable hour before dragging ourselves to our third floor owner's quarters! Set a limit, and they will come. We also have a small note above our doorbell that says: Check In 3:00 to 6:00. The late stragglers are quite apologetic when they see it... especially if we wait a minute or two before rushing to open the door... they're relived to see us let them in! And those who arrive earlier than 3, are more appreciative to have an earlier check in IF we are able to accommodate them. They start the conversation, we know we're early, but.... instead of feeling entitled. Others drive up, look at the sign and drive away and are back at 3 or later. Life is soooo much simpler these days and guests less disgruntled. We used to end at 7; then we smartened up years ago and set the time at 6. Give them an inch, they will take that mile. Funny! I was going to say that MY first actual degree in Psych is finally paying off too... use that more than my other degree in Hospitality Management!!Yes, and we actually get to eat an uninterrupted dinner at a reasonable hour before dragging ourselves to our third floor owner's quarters! Our check-in was 2-6, and we found ourselves hanging around until 6 or later. Changed it to 2-5, and now we get people racing into the driveway at 4:59, "We made it!" Just like kids, give them a limit and they will push up against it. We're happy, they're happy, uninterrupted dinner and early to bed.
I swear the amount of psychology involved in inn keeping...
