The Day From Hell

I have to admit that I'm fine when it comes to fixing something, getting it done, etc. What I can't handle are people that keep on pushing my buttons... that makes me very irritable and I explode. I came REALLY close today
Well, today everything just didn't want to work.

Guests showed up 2 hours early, understood that room wasn't ready and yet still asked twice about it. Came back after check-in time and the guest was having hot flashes and apparently the A/C was at fault because it wasn't cooling her down fast enough. And in spite of my explaining that A/C doesn't work faster if you set it lower, they wanted me to set it lower, because they thought it would work faster... UGH!

Guests stayed in late and the housekeeper never saw them leave, so I had to refresh the room. I'm still trying to finish a load of laundry they left for me.

The router died. Went out to buy a new router... get home, it's a repeater. Bring it back, don't have the router I want, buy a new higher end router. Open box. Plug it in, the person reset the password. So I push the reset button... it won't reset. Box it up, bring it back to the store. They have another open box. So we test it in the store... doesn't work. We buy a different brand, unwrap and installed.

Kicker... we had tickets at 7PM for a show. We missed it. Really pissed, but nothing I can do about it. Tony award winning actor who's also been the host of the Tony Awards... NL is the hint
I want my day back.

Returning items that don't work, are missing parts, etc is my biggest pet peeve. The big HD store is infamous for accepting returns and not checking to ensure all cords, screws, instructions are intact. They tape up the box and put it back on the shelves for people like me to deal with. Infuriating!

Everything was in there. But he had set the admin password. So I tried the reset procedure to set it back to factory settings. Didn't work. I guess he should have told them that it was defective, so they would have sent it back rather than let it sit there. We had the manager pull out the other open box and we tested it with him, while we were there. He sent both back as defective.

I was hoping to just have everything one brand, since I have a repeater. But in the end we had to go with another brand... and then I had to reset the IP addresses because DL!NK always uses 192.168.0.x when everyone else uses 192.168.1.x and I have a few items on the network with static IP addresses so that I can find them by address, if need be... like the repeater, the cameras and the NAS.

One star hotels are going for $300 a night... the Westin wants $725 a night (and I bet it doesn't even include breakfast! And that used to be Days Inn 3*... $1000 a night (3 rooms left.) We told one person who called who wanted a room at normal price... to stay an hour away on the other side of the border if they want that
So, now to add to the story. Go into the room and the AC is now set to 74 F. Last night they insisted we set it at 66 F. I reset it to the normal 70 F we leave rooms.
Internet is working fine. Replaced a showerhead; guests managed to kink the hose, new one has a metal hose. I have to go to the WareCost because we have nothing in the house... even out of coffee filters.
Guest checking in for one night is very nice, checked in early to get key and go, so I can go shopping. So far today is looking up.

We rarely plan a trip without having to do a breakfast the morning of departure. I know the feeling. Murphy strikes. (I could have been empty for a week before but did not close the online rez soon enough.)

Our big weekend last weekend everyone but one room was check in before one on Thursday. Luckily no one had their rooms the night before and they stayed all through to Monday morning. They were all up and gone by 930-10 and didn't come back till 7. Can't complain!

Oh, the room was being cleaned, but she got the key to the room, the key to the front door, set a breakfast time and left to come back later, so I was done. I don't mind when they set up an appointment to drop off luggage and check-in that way. That's a pleasure, as long as they tell us. It is those who expect the room... when standard check-in is at 3PM. For those who want us to clean the room to have it ready for noon... they pay. All others it's 3PM.
