Folks I live with are trying to earn some cash. They decided to advertise a room in the house as an air bnb ... mind you, I'm not sure they actually registered. I think they just advertised on craigslist. Room to sleep in, shared bathroom, shared use of the kitchen. They did not tell me what they were doing.
I am away a few days a week ... EVERYTHING in my room belongs to me ... the furniture down to the towels, bedsheets and pillows. All my personal stuff is in the room. I still LIVE here and contribute to household expenses while I'm renovating my condo.
Came home to find someone had slept in my bed. Had used my towels which were hanging on pegs in the room. GRRRR! They also tried to use my computer which is password protected. I found it in sleep mode, asking for the correct password.
I was so angry. I am still angry.
Apparently, they weren't comfortable in the room they rented and, during the night, they decided to use mine instead. Found the door unlocked and, like Goldilocks, made themselves at home.
This is an old house, the door to my room has an old fashioned latch, not a door knob. To lock it, I will have to install some kind of padlock. I've got a handyman coming over tomorrow.
My housemates were shocked when I told them. Shocked once I convinced them this had really happened. I mean, the bed in the other room LOOKED like it was slept in. they are sorry but no harm done, right? Seriously?!
They had strangers in the house who paid cash. But then they left them on their own to do whatever. Thankfully it was just overnight and they were not given a key to the house!
Back in my innkeeping days, I did have guests who left their room and went to another. It was unlocked, so in they went. Big surprise in the morning when I had to clean TWO rooms for incoming guests. That and an unexpected random person who ran in to use a guest bathroom caused me to lock up everything all the time.
I thought this rant would help but I'm still angry. I will be looking for another place to stay until my condo is ready. I can't stay in it right now. And I'm shaking my head in disbelief. I wonder how often this happens.
