I would like your thoughts on the in Google Streetview for businesses. As an example, If you aren't familiar, THIS STORE has an indoor "streetview"
Have any of you taken advantage of this?
How much would you be willing to pay for an indoor streetview?

I have assisted with business view with hotels. Best Western is spending millions to get every property on Google business walkthrough. I think it's more beneficial to independent hotels and bed & breakfasts.
I think virtual walk-throughs like this may be expected from travelers in the coming years.

Would you do this in your own home? Why would I want to showcase all the antiques, precise location, doors and windows for a potential thief?
People will be very annoyed with the hotels once the realize they were all spiffed up for the video and now they're dumps again.

I agree part of the charm of an Inn or B&B is the unveiling and exploration when you first arrive. Finding the little nooks, admiring the artwork, etc. This service sort of dampens that experience because sadly – you’ve already virtually been there already.

Oh, so you're here to maybe sell your service. Believe me, if there is a trend in the industry we here on the forum already know about it.
The hotel and vacation rental industry doesn't have people coming into the homes they live in. The security issue is totally different.

No thank you! I do not need to tell the world how to get into my home. A B & B is NOT an impersonal hotel or motel that is just rooms and lobby. I seriously doubt the hotels are going to show the back office area nor the kitchens and laundry. I do not care what the trend is, my rooms may be open to the public to rent for a night, but my home is still my home and that is not open.

i would've liked to show one inside shot especially since you could hardly see the main door from the road ... and lots of folks said 'oh, it's much nicer inside' but i would want control of the picture shown.

Always good to keep an open mind with new products. Glad you shared this info. Do you attribute a certain % increase in occupancy since this feature was added to your listing/website?

10 years ago we had a virtual tours done of our Place. It was good but it does give the chance for certain people to scope out your place. If you have art hanging up or valuable objects it lets the wrong kind of people see what you have. In one case we know it helped a thief steal in the middle of the night all their valuable antiques. When the owns came down to clean the room it was bare. When they do hotels it is different. Most things they have are not of great value. Yes there bed spreads disappear, towels etc. But art work there is none.
Just remember some times it pays for us to be different then a hotel. Why compare ourselves to Hotels? Don't we try to separate from the hotel industry? What is good for them is not necessary good for us. For them it just a room or just the outside vision of grounds they want people to see.
Did it make a good impact on our guest? At the time yes... but at the time there was not many companys doing this. so it was a novelty . The company's doing this now are many trying but there moving from one room to the other is fuzzy or down hallways .
Like every thing there is good and bad. I guess you have to ask yourselves do you really want people to see every thing you have ? It much like people asking private questions it like giving away a bit of your self. This can be a bit like that. do people have to see every thing about you and what you have ?? If the answerer is yes then this will work for you.

I live in a city small enough that burglaries rarely happen. I agree with your assessment. Remember, Gypsy Rose Lee was so successful because she still left something to the imagination.

This is our 9th season. Bookings were up 10% last year and now are up another 10% for 2014. And they come in much earlier AND for longer stays. First two years we haven't had to worry about cash flow! Also, I do agree abiyt leaving such to the imagination, but at the same time those who rave about the Virtual Tour, still get here and say it's even better in person, because film cannot capture the spaciousness and intricacies of the inn. AND we rarely ever get anyone who says we are not what they expected, has really weeded out the PITAs the past few years. We get the folks that get us and our sense of style. No disappointments. Re security: our front door is locked at all times and our guests are told during orientation to please not let anyone in who does not have a key. So guests also feel secure here.
