Why do guests read other guests reviews and then mention the same stupid stuff? All of a sudden everyone seems to discover that a TALL house has STAIRS. And the last one even mentioned not having an elevator? Are elevators standard in 125 year old homes in other countries? One mentioned that they had to take public transport.... really? What a shame? Not being able to have drone to move you? Never walked in their lives?

I've seen that. We had a spate of 'shared bathroom' comments by people who had an ensuite.
I think guests read other reviews first to see what someone else said. Then they think - ok, someone else said that, too.
It's lemming disease.

And really, the picture of the house is a 4 storey building that is over 125 years old. How do you have an expectation that we would ruin the whole building by installing an elevator? What's next, asking why we don't have an escalator instead of the stairs? And what's with the steep? It's a standard staircase.
Sometimes I want to mention that I, with my bad back and surgery, walk it at least 10 times a day. I have the only smart watch that keeps on going... you walked 10 staircases today, want to up your quota? NO! 10 staircases is enough. Heck, I walked up and down staircases the day before my surgery and the day after my surgery. Does anyone do any exercise anymore?

Don't start with me on stairs - The Lodge is 5 stories and we are moving the paint cans from the basement to the attic!

No, no one does exercise unless they are specifically 'exercising'. IE - they are at the gym.
I've had what seemed to be perfectly healthy adults crawl up our stairs because they had not seen a flight of stairs in 10 years. I tell all my retiring friends to not trade in their two storey house for a ranch, they'll gain 50 lbs and be dead in a year.
We had to put it on booking and in our confirmation that there are no elevators and no one to carry your 75# suitcase.
It's an epidemic!

Sorry to single out one particular race but our bedrooms are 1 floor up and the only people who moan about the lack of an elevator are Americans.

Oh, no doubt, it's us!

Although we're not technically a race, we are the laziest nationality by far. And given recent events, the stupidest too.

I've seen that many times. With standard rise and run of each step, if it's a long staircase, people perceive it as steep. All old buildings have high ceilings and therefore long staircases. This problem is in people's heads, so it's not going away.

We all know the term "ugly American". Loud, arrogant, entitled, demeaning, thoughtless, ignorant, and ethnocentric. Sadly, we earned every letter of that term.
I've always appreciated that Rick Steves, in his travel books, ALWAYS encourages Americans to pipe down in restaurants, where the rest of the world speaks at a low volume, and Americans typically speak loudly as they yuck it up, with no regard to neighboring diners. As I recently said to our old friend Eric Arthur Blair/Sugar Bear/Jon Sable/You Name It, this is not going to change :-(

I unfortunately had to tell a visitor lately that we talk softer around here. Not my greatest moment.

As a side point, and this is people from all countries..... the idea of a suitcase is to take your belongings with you. If it's too heavy for you to lift or carry up stairs what's the point, you might as well save your self the time of taking all your clothes out of the wardrobe putting them in your suitcase, and just bring the wardrobe instead.

I'd venture the thought that the term "ugly American" represents the privileged class of folks more so than the everyday working folks who are too busy working to consider an overseas trip.

Absolutely. It's the ones who travel abroad who earned that bad reputation. It was probably worse in the past than it is now.

No offense meant, but you are real people, worked for your dollars, everyday folks aren't problems.
Visitor recently, used the car charger, I unrolled the cord and placed it in his hand, when finished cord was dropped in the grass, same the second day, Maxine picked up the cord from the grass, not sure if damp grass contributed to the charger not working correctly the third day. I hope folks don't consider all Americans privileged as many are just decent folks.

I'm trying to figure out how to deal with towels. Is it really so difficult to understand that I'm not going to replace them if you hang them up?

Not sure how to fix that one as it seems the guests are being polite. We change the towels on the second day no matter if they're hung up or not.
We do have one of those 'save the planet' notes in the bathroom. Before that, almost 100% of the towels were on the floor.

I really don't care if they don't want to reuse them. But I'm tired of having TWO sets to wash because they hung them up and we put a second set instead. It means that I have a lot of towels in circulation. I want to cut that down.
PS: Canadian guests usually will reuse, even if I put a new set. They are so polite :)
