So you can be philosophical or nuts and bolts on this one. This is not a list of chores you do everyday. Just an idea of what you think your purpose as an innkeeper is.
Go!

Because of our romance niche, my purpose is to provide an experience. It's a lot of work, but worth it when it all comes together. My purpose is to help couples reconnect with each other. That means providing everything they need and then for me to get out of their way!

To provide cut-above lodging and service you would not expect in a very rural area.

I want to be that 'surprise' oasis that people think they've stumbled onto while travelling between mediocre B&B's. No offence meant to anyone here. Our province seems to be pretty loosely regulated and I've heard some stories..... And not just from guests but from friends and even other B&B owners. I give above and beyond what people expect and the best compliment anyone can give me is " If we had known about this place while we were planning our trip, we'd have arranged to stay longer"!

To share a uniquely historic and beautifully scenic location by the sea while providing warm hospitality and a sense of serenity. If we can achieve these goals then we are happy innkeepers! Of course there are many other factors that are a given: cleanliness, friendliness, great food, comfort and privacy but we all aim for those. So we hope to attract those travelers who are a good fit for what we see as our unique purpose. Hopefully that all comes through on our web site and other social media.

My Thursday departing guests said it (and it IS my purpose as an innkeeper) - "we could feel the stress leaving as the door opened."
His bicycle needed repaired and our bike shop is a dealer for this very expensive high-end bike brand. She found the bike shop with her phone and they sent them here for the night (ended up they stayed for 2). She said he relieves stress by riding his bike. In the 2 days they were here, he did not ask about his bike or fret because it was in the shop and did not get my bike out (mine is a good brand bike). She was amazed. They just decompressed, ate, talked, and talked, and talked. That is why we are here.

First thing that went through my mind...
This is my porpoise....

Our purpose is to restore, maintain, and improve a legacy property in a sustainable way. The legacy is not just that of our family, but that of the countless families who have and continue to vacation here over decades. We are stewards, not just of a special place, but of the special experience that our guests enjoy.
Sustainability is key, though, and it goes beyond environmental sustainability to include financial sustainability (ultimately, revenue must be greater than expenses, with reward commensurate to the risk) and emotional sustainability (ultimately, it's got to be fun, with satisfaction felt commensurate to the effort expended).

Harborfields, Yes! That's exactly what I was trying to convey. You have a way with words that is enviable.

Service is where I shine! But once they stay, they see and taste what I'm all about.
