I know our non innkeeper family and friends would have a heart attack if they saw what we spent $ on certain items. Not expensive items, but repeat buying, in other words we buy it all the time!
I think we spend more on fruit at our local than anyone else in this town (and buy the fruit no one else buys like tropical fruit and strawberries "out of season" and yet the fruit and veg, aka the produce man still doesn't greet me by name. In fact not at all.
I stock the guest fridge with sodas, of all variety from gingerale to cheerwine and lemonade so I buy the cubes - but don't drink them myself. I buy way less than the avg person at the store - even stocking a guest fridge. I think that may surprise people.
Meanwhile, the mulch guys love us, we spent $363.97 on mulch in 2014 (yeah I am nearing the end of these rcpts finally) not spreading it, just the mulch itself.
What is something kind of funny your non innkeeper friends would find amusing if they knew how much you spent or how much you bought?

Snak Pack cereals. I'm still amazed at how quickly they get eaten.
Adults enjoying Fruit Loops, Frosted Flakes and Coco Puffs.
If they're happy, we're happy!

I'll agree with Beachie on the cerea
Towels. I've been staying at my brother's house since he bought a house (probably 25 years ago). My mother gave them a cute towel set maybe 20 years ago. Yes, those towels are still in circulation. They bought towels to match the bathroom when they first moved into this house, 15 years ago. Same towels still in use.
Lawn care. Everyone else I know does their own.

There is a video I watched with my daughter that was about name brand vs generic Great Value and I will share it here if you all want to watch it (and Kirkland here).
Anyway, at the end we decided for fun we will do the same blind taste test and as we thought about things (we don't have to cook) but can compare she said "Cereal! There is just no comparison to a brand name cereal" and shared those you mentioned BH.

jumbo containers of oatmeal
cases of t.p. ... so much gets used ... so much. i once tried to do the math - figuring so many guests, so many room nights, but still so much is needed. it gave me a headache. except for the t.p. thief, i can't explain why we needed so much. add to that .. you never ever want a guest room to run out!

When eggs go on special, I walk out with 2 gross at a time. A buy a carton of maple syrup (about 3.5 US gallons) at a time. I buy these 40 rolls packages of a$$wipes, when they are on special, I buy 3 or 4 of them at a time. Same thing with the bottled water. Other weird things... body wash in large quantity. My laundry detergent comes in a 1100 wash paint bucket (16kg.)

TP, of course. Every time I go through the checkout lane with 6 jumbo packs, I get looks.

There is one very good exception to this. At one time they had a KS raisin bran and I had to admit that it was so much better. *BIG* raisins that you could clearly see.

How do you keep that many eggs fresh for any length of time?

Just for yucks, next time go thru with the tp and either prune juice or depends. Or dance a little in line.

Contrary to what Innkeep may have told you, I am not a wild and crazy guy!

Only $363.97? We dug down deep and spent $630 a couple of years ago. This is another "mulch year" ...that is if the snow ever melts!

Not buying but returning. We redeem all the bottles & cans guests leave behind. The only things we can't redeem are milk and certain out of state water bottles. First time DH showed up at the redemption center he realized he had something like 2 huge tubs of nothing but wine and beer and soda. Now he's all chummy with the redemption center owner (who saves the end of year giveaway for DH because he's such a good customer), but that first trip he was hemming and hawing and explaining.

Pounds and pounds and pounds of Red Vines over the year.
Sesame seeds. Most folks have a small jar of sesame seeds in the cupboard for years. I go through pounds of it a year.

I think our largest take at the redemption center was something on the order of $80. It helps when the guests leave us a lot of 15¢ wine bottles. We usually have a pretty good truck load, anyway.

Glazing compound (for old-fashioned windows); we buy the big gallon-size buckets and went through at least three this past season (and a lot of glazing points, too). Our man Jake became quite the glazier by the end of the summer!

Yeah it will be here again, it is every year actually. Good news it was 70 degrees today...the green thing growing o the green things growing!

Too bad you weren't in PA today...

That's about 2 to 3 weeks at most (summer), between guests and baking. That's not that long. Never had an egg go bad, yet. Wouldn't do that any other time of the year, though.

Are your eggs refrigerated when you buy them?
