We have friends with a very strict last check in time and since all their bookings are through b.c and it's in their policies they just ring b.c and tell them they haven't turned up and they cancel the booking.
They've had people phone and say they're hours away and when they tell them if they're not there by xpm their booking will be cancelled they miraculously are suddenly much closer and arrived shortly.

Thinking about rejoining book ing for midweeks. This was a major concern because we don't do checkins after 9pm. (Unless of course there is a plane delay or accident but if you just decide to not leave home or work late and want to arrive really late, you're not getting in - we don't do self checkins.) My rep said they would absolutely have this highlighted and we can stick to it.
What's actually happening to your friend is that they are deciding to go to dinner and keeping your friend waiting because they're rude. As soon as they hear they will lose their money, then they stick to what they've agreed to. Good for your friend, I'm sick of people who think nothing applies to them.
Yesterday a guest's wife didn't want to come down to breakfast so he came and ate and then asked in front of the other guests if he could take her a plate. What are you gonna do - look like a jerk, so hubby said sure. Guess what, this morning she didn't come down and he actually told us that "you spoiled her yesterday so she wants to do it again today" - we didn't spoil her, we were forced to do it because other guests were looking on. We actually got a review several years ago from a guest who gave us a four and said we were actually going to get a 5 but guests asked to sit outside (tables weren't cleaned off or set and we had 18 guests all pretty much coming at the same time) - hubby asked if they could sit inside this morning as nothing was clean and setup outside. So we didn't say no to her, but to another guest and she said we should never say NO to anyone in the hospitality field so we got dinged a star. We'll see how it goes, if we start getting people who arrive late like at a hotel, we'll stop using them again.
