Guest hands housekeeper tip directly for the next three days... she's only housekeeping today! Can't exactly ask her to split it now, can I?

You could ask her to come in to do that room for the next two days!

Not even worth your time thinking about it. You're the owner whether or not you're also the housekeeper for the next couple of days.
Be happy for your housekeeper that she got a tip at all.

Oh, happy she got a tip. But usually I divide the tip money by who works which days.

This one? Doesn't believe in working weekends. From an agency, so we pay the agency. She didn't want to come in on holidays either, which is fine with us, but then she realized she wasn't getting paid for the day if she didn't work. We aren't her employer, we just get someone else to do it.
One of the reasons that we hired an agency... easy to replace as needed and I don't have to do all that paperwork.

Is someone else working instead? There's really no way to win on this. If you say she needs to hand over 2/3 for the other person then she stops mentioning the tips at all.
It will all even out eventually. Someone else will leave a tip she never gets.
Hey, I got $2 today!

I realize, that's why it's an ugh moment.

When we had two people who worked it was policy that all tips were brought into the office and put in an envelope. They were split by the # of days that they worked and I gave each their share on payday. They both realized that they should play fair so that they'd get a split of those big tips. We are down to 1 housekeeper this year because one quit - she lucked out the other day as there was $40 in one room that was a one night stay and $25 in other that was a 2 night stay, with the rest of the small tips she made more than a regular days pay. I'm so happy for her when she gets big ones!

One of our summer help we split tips in half. It was an easy system and he always turned in the ones he found. The other summer help didn't. Saw it as she did the room why should she share with me even when she knew I fluff the room the day before...so I stopped sharing mine with her and we put her on the one night stay rooms. Solved that problem nicely.

That's very awkward having a guest advance tip ... I think I would have asked her to take 1/3 and leave the rest for the other. If it was much.
I had one chambermaid who used to rush into the rooms 'to check on the soaps' and she would clear out any tips. It caused no end of trouble with the other chambermaid. I did not like mediating that at all.
