The Mentor's Wisdom
It's human nature to look at the effects and think about how we can change them. Less common is to look at causes.
A good mentor for leaders and business people will answer your questions with different questions - and shift your attention to the causes.
If you have been trying to fix a problem over and over, maybe you are asking the wrong questions about it. What is the real cause?
Find it, then face it.

and
Who is your competition?
If we compare ourselves to others, we'll never be happy because someone will always be smarter than us, better looking than us, thinner than us, and have more money than us.
If we aren't competitive at all, we won't try, and that will keep us at the bottom.
Instead, let us be our own competition. All we have to do is commit to being a better version of who we were yesterday. If we can continually improve and feel forward motion in our lives, we feel we are making progress.
Just beat yesterday.

Great reminder! There were three quotes we shared with our children over and over as they were growing. We still apply them in our lives and "whistle while we work."
"If you can't do what you like, then like what you do." Billy Sunday's grandfather
"You don't have to prove anything to anyone. Just always be improving yourself." Ward Cleaver to the Beav at the end of a "Leave it to Beaver" show
"If we walk long enough and talk long enough, maybe we'll get to know one another." Jesse Owens' coach
