... Or get out of bed and answer it!
The guests in the room near mine have been getting calls since 5:30 AM.
Well I'm certainly awake even tho they are still snoring away.

We had guests in the room above us start chatting loudly at 1am the other night. I thought surely this can't go on.
It did until 2am at which point I banged on the ceiling with the broom and finally they went quiet.

Had guests from Asia recently who felt it was perfectly ok to loudly FaceTime their family in the middle of the night.

Somebody left an alarm clock set to 3:45 am in our loft bedroom. Our guests had to get up out of bed, search for it, and unplug it. They were repeat guests and good-natured about it, but still embarrassing. Not sure if it was a teenager playing a joke or someone just inconsiderate. We're adding an alarm check to our mental post stay checklist.

I check the alarm clocks every time a guest leaves. Have to, or this will happen from time to time. Doesn't take but a second to glance and see if an alarm is set, but it has to become part of the routine.
Also I check each TV before the guests arrive, because sometimes on some of the TVs somebody will change the input to something that doesn't exist. Also one time someone used the numbers on the remote to set the TV on channel 823, which we don't get, so when the next guest turned on the TV they just saw a black screen and called to tell me the TV didn't work. So now I check for that. Only takes a moment.

It's a quick check when dusting. Click is in my hand, quick peek, put it back in place. Of course, we have missed it on occasion. Reminds me I should check I've told the housekeeper to do that!
We also set the TV to the weather channel so no one is upset by finding something unseemly when they turn on the tv.

.
I also set all TVs to the weather channel and set the volume to reasonable. Have found that one TV in particular has a tendency to have been messed with (have no idea what they do) that I have to figure out (again) how to reprogram the channels and do it - takes a while to run through everything too.

Enjoyed your comments. I guess
I solved some noise problems by not having any TVs (those people should go to motels)
and no clocks! If they need alarm they can set their ipads
or tablets.
Interested in the comment about
Asians using Facetime early hours of the morning. Wow!
Just got a booking from China
for 2 rooms so was thankful to
learn they can do that. I will
let my guests know that kind of
thing is not acceptable here.
I dont mind making a few rules
because they are always ones I
would follow. However, truth be
said so many of the guests dont
read the Policies and turn up with kids/pets etc. which we do
not accept. Oh well, all part of
being an Innkeeper. I just stick to my guns and let them know
the rules are clearly posted.

The most effective way to figure out your clientele is your pricing. Your policies aren't clear enough on your website. Make sure they are clear and everywhere. No children at all, all guest must be over 18. (Though I would check if you can legally do that.)
I don't agree with you about alarms. People need a way to wake up on time and you can't assume they will be travelling with something that will work as an alarm. I'm sorry, but my phone won't wake me... I'll sleep right through it.
If you don't have TVs, people who have laptops or tablets will stream. There is no real way around it. So, you need to decide how best to handle such things. I don't leave in a sound proof house and yet get little in complaints and yes, we have TVs, we just put them on outside walls, so they don't reverberate into other rooms.

She's in CA and it's not legal to discriminate against kids there. The best thing is to make your maximum occupancy in each room is 2. Children are people too.

Generic is right, you MUST make it very clear on your website.

This was a first for me.
Guest arrived and didnt want the
room he booked. Fortunately I had another room which cost more but he liked it and paid me cash the difference. He left a
great review for me.
A week later he requested a refund of the cash difference he paid!
Naturally, I didnt make that refund but wonder if any of you
have had similar experiences.
Some people really are
amazing!
