The construction on the house is nearly finished and we are thrilled with the results! Two new sinks look great! Some much needed paint has truly changed the whole vibe of the place. Replacing that knob and tube wiring with more contemporary wiring has me sleeping better at night. The shingles on the west side of the house make a much better first impression and the paper and insulation under them will help with temperature control. As will the brand new windows on the second and third floors!!!!
And in our portion of the house, had the bedroom painted (finally after 2+ years!) and the hall bathroom mudded and painted so I can let people use it without embarrassment!
Sure, it took most of what we made this summer, but every darned project was well worth it. And next year, we rest. (I know, right?)

MOnday sees me putting in a new bathroom in room 10 - wish us luck!

Best of luck!! Are you doing the work yourself? We will be gutting a bathroom in February. But not by ourselves!

Btwy, we've been here 10 years and just painted our bedroom last year.

We just had our cottage work done: replaced carpet with wood floors, all wallpaper stripped and painted and put backsplash on all walls in the kitchen. We're thrilled with the results.
It sure puts a new spring in your step when there's a metamorphosis of a room. Now I have to try to take some professional looking photos to update the website asap. That's where the challenge is going to be.
Beachy, you had old knob & tube wiring? Yowzer! I'm surprised you were able to find an insurance company that allowed that. What a big relief you must feel to get rid of that old stuff.

I had to replace my knob & tube wiring years ago due to insurance company. Funny thing is, the Master Electrician (not someone who does odd jobs) told me the wiring he replaced was actually safer than what he was required to install. We had second generation wire and he said it was in good shape. (He also did the work as a favor to us for rates of course - because he hates to work on old houses to get access to what is needed.) Sometimes new is not actually better - just better income for the replacers.

Most of the house is updated. We even had separate circuits put into each bedroom so we could have AC and elec. fireplaces. When they pulled the shingles to recover the side of the house, they saw the old wiring on one set of sconces. There may be more. It's an old house and (as we are learning) most of the work done on it over the years has been band aid work.

I get stressed out if the room isn't 'finished.' But it took me two weeks to get the curtains hung after the painter left. All good now!

What color?
We covered a very boring and light sucking beige that was scuffed and peeling with a very light, bright green. Almost can't tell it's green. Close to white.

Kind of a royal blue. It's not what I expected it to be but I'm not in there very much.

No thank goodness! plumber is coming mon-friday and tiler is coming next mon-friday - all delivered on monday morning plus skip - but we are having a pain as the tiles we wanted won't be in on time so we will have to go and pick out something else this week as we are rapidly running out of time.

I chose a color called "warm scones". It was fate, don't you think?

I can relate to the band-aid frustration. Our house is 1894 and it was held together with band-aids and gum.
