Trust me...I was tempted to take them but I was already ready for bed. I have been ready-get set-go all week and had 2 family members pass away. I needed a breather. I have 3 honking mortgage payments, thank you very much! My sanity was worth it this evening and they could have not shown (which happens to JBJ). And my dh had been called into work.

Then there were the people that called at 9 pm looking for a room for tonight. uh, no...we don't have staff....I referred them to the places with 24 hr staff. I was already chilling watching a movie.

Unless the person is ringing my doorbell, I'm with you. 9 PM is just too late for me. They call and say they'll be right there and if you have their cc info, they assume, 'What the heck, let's go eat.' Or, in my case, 'Let's go shop.' Until midnight. I get calls like this all the time. 'We're on our way!' yeah, but where from? Are they 10 miles out or 100? Will they stop along the way? I didn't end up renting that room last night, but it's ok.Samster said:

We had walk-ups tonight! Overseas visitors driving up and down the SE. They had been sent to another B&B and there was no one around, they walked down here not knowing we were a B&B. I thought that they had reservations at the other place and had already dialed their number when he told me that they just had been sent there by someone locally.Well, like I said, I insist on the cc. These folks were still an hour away, I was already ready for bed, and my husband had just left to go to work (his other job) to handle an emergency. I KNOW we're in this business to make money but I take my lead from some others who have been in the business awhile and believe that there was a good chance that these folks wouldn't have even shown up & then I would have been really torqued.
Sometimes there are more important things than money and this was one of those instances where that was the case. I stand by my decision for me.

Sorry for your loss. In my family it has been a sister and first cousins. All Aunts and Uncles gone. That is where you are now. You and I are part of our family oldest generation once the aunts and uncles are gone. Yes, we need to think about what is important in our life.
I know that I'm part of the "oldest generation" now. I am not THAT OLD!! That's what's kinda scarey...Sorry for your loss. In my family it has been a sister and first cousins.
