That loud noise you just heard...

...was me yelling and beating my head on the wall. I'm painting the very last room. The very last. (Unless I decide to take down the wallpaper in the dining room. And really fix up the attic. But not this year.)
I'm painting a room I spent very little time in for the past 13 years so I had NO idea how poorly the PO's painted it. We've now turned it into a master bedroom (Ginormous walk in closet!) so after the carpet went down and I got over whatever it was I did to my back, I'm back on the ladder.
I'm not a perfectionist (anymore) but I used to be and realizing the way they painted was to roll the brush upwards until it hit the ceiling is making me buggy. (White ceiling, turquoise walls) The baseboard radiator is covered with paint. The moulding around the doors and windows is covered. The walls were pink the first time around and they missed a fair bit of that by trying to paint the ceiling that lovely southwest color.
One more coat of the dreamy cream color I'm painting 3 of the walls and then I go back and touch up the ceiling. Some of the paint is 5-6" out from the wall. How could someone do that and not wipe it off or touch up? (I ask this of people who drilled a hole to the outside to run TV cable and never caulked around the gaping space which lets in cold air and bugs. On the list to fix up once I'm done.)
My new carpet got restretched today. Yippee! What a mess that was before. All straight now. Furniture goes back in when Gomez returns. Can't do it myself as I don't want to wrench the ol' back again.

I once touched up a room with an artist brush because the line between the ceiling and walls was plaster and we could see the ceiling color mixing so slightly onto the walls. Took me days, but, to me, it was worth it.

Gomez's daughter caught me painting with two paintbrushes, one in each hand. The walls were navy and the ceiling was white and I was making sure the line was perfect. She thought I was nuts. I'm not like that now.
The best painting advice I ever got (from a contractor I could not wait to see the back of) was to not try to follow the exact line of the plaster where it meets the ceiling but to chalk a line and paint to that line. Your eye sees a straight line on the wall and ignores that the ceiling is going all over the map. But, yes, I did touch that line up where I saw bleeding.

I'm at the point today where I just looked at the room and said, 'I'm done.' Yes, the next people will wonder why I didn't do one more coat (I've done 4 and I can still see the green paint) and why I was so sloppy with the green paint to start with (not MY green paint!).
I'll touch up the ceiling tomorrow after I get my office put back together.

I knew darn well when I should've (wished I could've) taken more time with things but afterwards I'd stop and look and think 'I did a helluva job!' and you did, too.

Painting? We have no fewer than 3 dozen cans of used paint in the basement. One thing I've found incredibly liberating is to forgo the white ceiling and paint it the same color as the walls! Another is to bite the bullet and pay a little extra for the paint with the primer in it.

Ditto on the number of cans. I have them all labeled with the name of the room. I can't do chocolate ceilings, just too dark! ;-)

And just in case I didn't have enough cutlery (flatware for those south of the border), my mother gave me another set that is gold plated. Like you can actually use them! I'd have to count them after every breakfast... to make sure people didn't walk off with them. Totally and utterly useless cutlery.

Every time I go to NY I come home with at least 10 boxes of stuff. I still have no idea HOW there was so much stuff in a 700 sq ft house. And I don't even bring home the furniture.
Last week I brought home 3 boxes. I give myself a day to calm down from the stress of going thru everything and then I empty the boxes and give the things a new home.
Next month there will be another 5 or so boxes. It seems like no matter how much I remove it multiplies while I'm gone.
Yes, I brought home a serving box with silverware.

With as much as I gave to the art teacher at the high school, to the future museum, to the kids plundering through the workshop, dolls to daughters & granddaughters, and art supplies to daughters - I still have rooms full of stuff.
I went to show a guest (return) a flintlock Himself made and it was gone. I went bananas. Fortunately before I screamed at anyone, I checked with Finland to see if it was one he had taken home with him. It was not, but he told me where he had put them - out of temptation zone of the too many hands that were here. Was able to show it at breakfast to someone who appreciated the craftsmanship of Himself.
I have someone coming next week to look at tools and dolls. Found out my $125 kerosene lamp purchased in an antique shop 30 years ago is now worth maybe $40. Sigh. I am trying to downsize now, not later.
