VENT ALERT! A Friday night rez in August calls and asks to move rez to Sept 3 and I say OK without realizing until it is done that it is the Saturday of Labor Day weekend for 1 night in my best room of course. JUST NOW, our plans have changed CANCEL. Like I am really going to rebook now. The only good part is that now we can go to a reunion without doing a breakfast first. I think I have my second DNB in 20 years - and the first one because he stayed since I was going to charge him 1 night of his 3-night rez.
Thank you, I am done. Now I feel better. I think I will go out an mow the side yard and get my aggression out of my system.

Some good came of it - I mowed most of the side yard and a man walked by and finished the last of it for me. By that time I had most of it done. Will be hitting the alee ve shortly.
I had just purchased melons yesterday for breakfast. I do not NEED a day off - I get too many of them. I am not at the shore, I am not in a big city where people are streaming in to see the sites, I am not in the mountain vistas. I have made this a destination as much as it is one. I have more hotels than carter has pills along the Interstate. And one cancel, especially if I have purchased fruit (yes we could eat it but usually would not) hurts. I am not going 30 days with no break like you folks - that I could not take - I get the reverse - almost.
Actually what cranked me was I was upset with myself that I had allowed Labor Day to get puked up and then he cancelled. No reservation would have been easier to take. All better now. Just going to be sore as hell tomorrow.

I will pray for you. My dad takes a hot soak after a hard day to relax the muscles so they won't hurt. I do the same and it works! We don't like to take pain pills…. Mom says we are silly about that or stubborn.

I feel for you, seems no one ever calls unless we are deep into some project and it is so easy to overlook the fact that a simple change can create an even bigger problem and then cancel on you at the last minute, gee thanks. I think those are the type folks that gave me the motivation to start using Reservation Key and Authorize and asking for a deposit at the time of the reservation. We're still learning and still making mistakes and still get those that cancel, but even our small deposit seems to screen out some of those who want us to hold a room just in case it works out for them to visit.
We've all walked that road at one time or another, quite a few years ago my big idea was to offer visits to small senior groups. I would drive (bus) pick up the group, bring them to the motel and play bus driver and tour guide of the area for four nights, then take them home. I made friends with some really great folks, had fun, but never really made any money with the idea, the trip to make you feel not so alone, after taking the bus 350 miles to pick up my group on one trip, the group had fizzled to 3 people and the leader just didn't let me know, yay, that wouldn't even cover the fuel part of the package. Had my aunt who had recently lost my uncle not been part of the group, I'm afraid I'd of just left them standing and drove home.

Never fails...we had a similar 3 night cancellation. But they did it within their cancellation policy. We are not full this holiday weekend, perhaps the weather is preventing getaways.

It has. Just had to vent so I would not rip the head off a certain co-habitor of the premise when he spoke the next negative comment (negativity was fed to him in Mother's milk - in the genes). I can only take so much of that. Got something out of it. The "hay field" that was my side yard looks a LOT better and I did not lose another blackberry bush doing it. 3 of my 9 have been victims of the weed wacker because they blended in with the "hay". Too much rain - the side yard grows 3x faster than the rest of the yard.

The attitude of negativity was so pervasive that I actually quit because anything that I brought to the table was immediately squashed. There was no need to come up with a new idea if everyone is always negative about it. I hate when people are negative just to be negative. That's when it's time to take a nap.

They wanted their deposit back, don't get it. Next call came from the guys with the tools…. Checking in to see what project is on for the weekend, so knows what tools to bring along. Also to let us know that he told the hurricane to stay south and the the sun will come with him.

We had people cancel for a huge snow storm and we did refund their deposit. But we kept the processing fee.
And the same weekend, one couple came anyway. They had a nice, cozy time alone in a snow storm in a romantic B&B.

We got someone on air hanging on, asking question. I feel like saying, "It's the last room for that night, you want it or not? We got it blocked on our site so not to overbook but if they don't grab it soon…..
