totally off topic
every year we have a Victorian Father Christmas at the fair for all to visit with. souvenir photo available for purchase. when he is taking a break, the signs say 'Santa is feeding the reindeer. He will be back in his workshop at xx o'clock'
imagine my surprise when a young mother, with eyes shining, asked if she could go see the reindeer with her toddler. honestly, i rather thought 'grownups' knew that just meant santa wasn't available right now. not that he came with actual reindeer. there is no farm, no pasture, no place where we could have a few reindeer - which might be cute. by no stretch of the imagination could we accommodate animals at the location.
i said (quite honestly) ' i don't know where the reindeer are. but father christmas will be back in an hour. ' very disappointed ... the mom walked away.
now ... as i am making up the signs for this year's fair... i'm pausing. should i just say Santa will be back at xx o'clock and leave out the reindeer?
