Rooms full of lawyers - This ain't my first rodeo

ResKey was spinning this afternoon as 3 four-night reservations came in within minutes of each other, all for the same four nights. My three most expensive rooms.
The reservation said "3 rooms, 3 lawyers, coming to town for a trial". They're from the huge state south and west of us.
Twelve room-nights at full rate, the week before Thanksgiving. Sounds great. But I've dealt with lawyers booking rooms before, and I'm willing to take bets on which option below will take place first, because I guarantee you one, or both, will take place.

• How long before the email arrives: The trial has been postponed until January. We want our deposit back.
• Or they arrive and on the afternoon of the second day, the text message arrives: The case settled. We won't be needing the final 3 nights of our reservations.

You can bet I'll stick to my cancellation policy.

Oh, I never have contact with the lawyers. Just their poor secretaries who handle all the details for them. So when I point them to the terms, on the website, on ResKey, everywhere, it will be the poor secretary who gets blamed. Of course, in the end, I'll probably be the one who gets burned. I know that. This ain't my first rodeo.

Ha! That didn't take long! Just got this from the lawyers' secretary...
I just found out that the case settled a few moments ago. We need to cancel all three rooms now. Can you please assist?
Real efficient law firm there. Booked yesterday to travel to another state for a case that was settled months ago. I kept a $25 cancellation fee and refunded the rest of the deposit. Easy come, easy go.

Maybe they used the booking of rooms as leverage to get the other party to settle, as in "look how serious we are about going to trial, we've already booked these non-refundable rooms...."

Had to laugh at that one. Definitely not surprised. A lot of cases settle in the hallway while the judge is having a 2nd cup of coffee. Bill until the last minute.
