Must be washable. I am currently looking as well and prices seem to be $70 up. With as much wear/tear they get durability is one of the big factors for me when choosing..
I read the reviews on all of them. Does the item shrink? (Just bought a king coverlet for a queen bed and it worked out just fine but I knew it was going to shrink that much based on a previous purchase.)
I am astounded by the number of reviewers who state, 'love this whatever, put it on the bed a month ago, but haven't washed it yet.' Ewww!

Do you rotate coverlets? Have a washing day coverlet? We are having trouble with the time it takes to dry the big ones. Or, as I'm seeing in this thread, you just buy what is easier to wash?
.
I replaced all the heavy, floor length covers with short, lightweight quilts.
I do have random quiltsd I can throw on the bed for days I can't get the 'right' quilt dried in time. An off white one will go anywhere.
When we took pets I had super light quilts I used as they washed and dried in no time. Now I use duvets as I can just strip the covers and wash them.
I've got half again as many blankets as I do a 'blanket' day every couple of weeks and they all get washed the same day. But they are all in the attic which is a problem if lots of guests want an extra.
Every other year I clear out the attic and give away any bedding that hasn't been used in 2 years.
After 10 years I have finally gotten enough rooms in the same general colorway so I can swap as needed.
.
Do you usually have an extra blanket in the room? So that would be an "extra", extra blanket they need?
Do you find duvets too warm in summer?
.
No extra blankets in the rooms. The duvets are just for the winter. In the summer the beds have a quilt and a blanket.
I used to have sheet, blanket, duvet and quilt for the winter but I removed the blanket as overkill. The folks who needed the extra blanket this week also turned the heat up to 70. Not sure how anyone can sleep in that temp!
No extra blankets because there just isn't room for one more thing! We don't have closets or dressers in every room.
Maybe I could try to stuff them in somewhere if I find a good $10 blanket closeout. I worry about forgetting them and not washing them and then they end up with beetles in them and smelling like musty old furniture.

How often do you wash the quilt? Every guest? Every week? Two weeks?

I know we clean freaks think waiting 2 weeks (maybe 14 guests???) to wash things is too long but I take a longer view...NOTHING EVER GETS WASHED AT A HOTEL. So, I have calmed down about being obsessive with the cleaning.
As for other stuff...the bedskirts get washed 2x/year. The pillows themselves generally once but sometimes I do them in the summer, too, because people will go to bed with sweaty heads and then the pillows stink. So I wash them.
.
I generally use a nice white pillow protector and replace it when I can see they sweated through to it. Keeps me from having to do the pillow. But when I see that they have managed to get through to the pillow, in it goes and it's rotated. I wash them like towels, with oxy and bleach and extra rinse. Dry them in the dryer with dryer balls to fluff them up. Usually come out fluffier as well.
Even if things say dry clean... I wash them. Used to be in the business, we would mark things as dry clean just because we didn't want any liability on their being washed. Unless it has small parts or leather, I can't see why they need to be dry cleaned.

That is what I thought also. I washed the drapes and hung them on the line so the dryer would not shrink them. The liner was fine - in ALL of them - however, the drapes themselves oonched up about an inch. I hung them anyway for about a year and replaced the last of them last Fall. (they were NOT in the room that rents the most)

I have extras in the closet, and I fold them a certain way so I can tell if they were used. I have debated using a clear plastic bag over them so I can be sure, but think that might look tacky. I wash everything after everyone, but extra blankets no if they haven't been used....but I don't want a bug/spider to find them a home either. Looking for a better idea if anyone has one.

If I have one of those neat plastic zipper bags that sheets and coverlets often are sold in I put my extra blanket in the zipper bag, all neat and tidy and store it on the top shelf of the closet in the room with the extra pillow. Once in a while someone uses the blanket. Otherwise, it gets washed once a year at the beginning of the season just to ensure it is not musty.

I use triple protectors on all my pillows. The first layer is a bb-resistant layer, the second is absorbent and a clean, white heavy duty cotton, and the third is a lighter cotton. The top layer gets replaced every week. Hopefully the second and third layer have not been affected by guest use. If I see signs that there is any yellowing...you know a drooler...then the second layer gets washed as well.

May I ask where you get your pillows? I have trouble getting ones that wash well, ending up lumpy or mis-shapen ones.
.
The best ones I got were Ralph Lauren. Don't buy the $5 pillows at Kohl's if you want them to last. Jcp are ok but they're never the same.

I store all of the extra stuff in those bags! They are perfect. Nice zippers.
