That's why I use the deal from the Cost warehouse, it dumps most of those fees. And there is no contract other than month-to-month.I won't try to sway you, but we are moving away from traditional processing. Our processor just instituted a new $20/month fee for pci compliance. And, an additional $7.50/month fee for chargeback insurance.
And, they charge us $5/month to accept debit cards.
And, there's a minimum fee of $15/month.
And a fee to access our account online.
So, even if I never processed a charge, I would still have to pay $47.50/month just to have the terminal sitting on my desk. That's highway robbery. The company is van tiv.
I did do the calculations again this summer. Up until these new charges it was not cost effective to have square or stripe. But, now it is. Even if I had hand entered all of our transactions in July, using square, it would have saved me $200 over what it cost me to use the traditional processor.
They tell you your base rate is 1.9% but no one has a base rate card any more. Our average processing was 4.15% this year with all the extra fees.
Ok, off my soapbox!.
Agreed! We are just coming to the end of our first year and used First Data...Hated them from the first statement!Avoid First Data..
When I left them several yers ago now, they were charging me $21.90 for NO transactions. So mny cards were non-qual (third party such as Seirra Club Master Card or like mine A T & T but actually Citi now) that were hirer % and an intervention fee even though it was as seamless as any other card. The % fee on cards was something you could not verify to see if you were being cheated. With Square, I can do the math to see it is spot on.Agreed! We are looking to change before next year! Too convoluted, reports make no sense and if you have to ask a question or need and explanation - Look out! - round and round you go!

I have noticed with square they round up and down so sometimes the fee is a little higher and sometimes a little lower than the math calculates it to be.When I left them several yers ago now, they were charging me $21.90 for NO transactions. Been with First data for a few years now, don't have a problem with them. They're a bit annoying the way they cancel your online account if you've not been logged on for a while, as I only log on a couple of times a year when I'm doing my accounts it keeps happening. Makes no sense since I'm still processing through their machine. Other than that, fine.Avoid First Data..
I have not ever noticed that with Square -- they always carry out their calculations to the penny.I have noticed with square they round up and down so sometimes the fee is a little higher and sometimes a little lower than the math calculates it to be.When I left them several yers ago now, they were charging me $21.90 for NO transactions. We use First Data through Cayan; works OK. Pretty good customer service from a call center in Ireland.Avoid First Data..
Try Elavon, Moneris or Helcim and see what they offer. You can always use one of the kid's memberships for the Elavon Executive Cost Warehouse deal.Latest bill from regular processor has a $169 'yearly membership fee'. It's over with them.
And these fees are taken right out of our checking account. Not like we can get that money back..
Totally agree with Costcoo, we run 2.5 -2.6% Swiped or Keyed which includes AX. No no no no extra fees. Has saved us $Ks annually. If you have a cost membership, they have a deal that's pretty hard to beat..
