I need a break. Late check in last night cleaned us out of ice TWICE in 8 hours. They took plates out of the kitchen. HELLO people! READ the sign. It's not like they were QUIET so no one heard them come in.
And a list of other August complaints...

Dh is getting a bit short tempered as well. It's constant. No breaks.
Only 4 weeks until our September vacation. Close the rooms, golf, eat, drink, repeat.

You can do it! Hold on there! We understand how it is!

This is your moment of zen, brought to you by Natalie Merchant. Just sit back and listen to this song and watch the tension go away....

500 lb ice bin so that's not usually a problem, but full last night and tonight, three rooms of folks swapping to three different rooms besides a few rooms coming in today, replace one toilet seat (saw off the old one), still a P-trap to remove and snake the drain before those folks return. If it makes it any easier we all share the fun of the business, a bit in different ways.

Hot here. Very hot. Ice melts quickly. We were always buying ice ... tried to make it but never enough in August. We had an old, second fridge/freezer in the basement. That's where I kept the ice. That's where big guest leftovers went. That's where extras went.
Stacks of chinette paper plates for guest use because in spite of signs these people are going in your cupboards. Much as I dislike them, one place I work we have little built in locks on all the cupboards. All open with the same key and it's a nuisance but we unlock them all at start of use, lock up again after ... It's actually not all because many are cupboards that store things we rarely use. Back to your place ... you can't block them out of your kitchen, right? No way to frame it in so they can't get in there? Construction framing I mean. With a door.

We have the baby locks. They are now engaged. We have everything the guest needed right where they were standing when they cleared out the ice. There are cupboards there with everything in them. Why not look there first instead of deliberately going where you don't belong.
We bought one of those spring loaded crowd control thingies. We have to install it this week. We'll then hang the do not enter sign right on it.
It was more the ice and the 5 bags of food trash in the room that were annoying. But the trespassing thing is right up there. I'm going to put a chair in the doorway tonight.
No. There is no comfortable way to install a wall. The floor space is only 3x7 feet. It's already over 90 degrees in there during the summer. A wall would kill the cook!

I love the Studio 54 rope off. Great idea! And great visual! I see strobe lights and limos.
People think they are renting the house. I'm clear in my speech about where the common areas are, but often find people on my back deck. Where they had to open a gate in a solid fence to get in.

That was absolutely lovely. Thank you!

Well I was thinking more of when you aren't in the space after hours and these guests rummage around where they don't belong ... not when someone is trying to cook in it. But I haven't been there so I don't know

Right there with you. For me, it's the four foot wide front door that faces south and carries with it the 92 degree air with 75% humidity that people leave open "just for a second" while they run back to their car. I am constantly on edge, listening and watching for people (that have already checked it) because I know they think that simple request doesn't apply to them. Or they stand there talking to each other with the door open because they were on their way out and something caught their eye (a brochure, a picture, etc) and they have to have a discussion about it before they go. Shut the effing door!!!!! I am looking at a $892 electric bill this month - but what do they care? They paid for it, right?

While their guest room upstairs stays frigid because it's cooled with the central air AND window units, the innkeeper is having hot flashes and about to pass out because they don't think a 2 minute run to the car can make any difference. Sorry, but yes it can and does!

Photos under the renovations tab on the blog.
Hey, we've lived with this for eons now. But it's always August that gets me. Even worse this year as I'm coming up on the anniversary of the last time I saw my mom or heard her voice. I'm a bit weepy all the time.
So back off silly guests!

I was just looking at pics on the blog trying to find the kitchen ... did you see me there?
I'm sorry about your mom. It's hard.

Trying to find the kitchen about sums it up! I just put an arm chair across the open space. We're done in the kitchen for today.
Maybe I should label the drawers and cabinets?

Totally understand how you are feeling. 5 weeks not one day off.

Thanks.
It's the water torture thing at this time of year. Plink...plink...plink... one thing after the other.
.
I went crazy back the last week of July…. So I understand. Yesterday my aunt said she was ready to cancel an air reservation if that person texted one more time after two hours of consent texts…. water torture…. she comes this Monday. She must have felt her ears grew red, she hasn't texted since….but every time the phone dings…..

We took off in June to go to a graduation. So, we're only 5 weeks into it, too. And, I've got some time planned in 3 weeks. I find this is the only way to keep my head. Luckily, it's lovely weather here now. Great breeze, windows open! That helps so much!
