Yesterday, after my guests left, I luxuriated in the fact that I had no guests coming. Incredible for a Saturday! I quickly put the house in order and took off to go fly fishing in a beautiful nearby river. It was a wonderful way to spend a warm spring day. I was still in that blissful state of mind when I returned home and listened to my phone messages. A guest had called at 2:45 to say they were on their way and would be here shortly. The next message was from the same guest saying they had arrived but couldn't find anyone about so they left and would return around 9:00 p.m. I was beyond mortified! I checked my reservations and found their confirmation email. I just never wrote it in my calendar. This is the first time in 20 years this has happened. I immediately called them and apologized. They were wonderful. They laughed and said it was no problem. When they arrived they could not have been nicer. This morning they were even more pleasant. I still can't believe it! After driving for 4 hours to get to a B&B and finding no one about, I'm not sure I would've been so understanding. There was no way I was going to charge them for their stay and when I told them that, they kept saying that this was the best B&B experience they'd ever had! I love these guests! I'm not sure how I lucked out on getting such understanding guests, but I am beyond grateful. I will never forget "how they made me feel". (See tagline below I hope I remember that the next time I'm having a negative customer service experience.
