Copper siding...they must be millionaires to afford that.. Better watch out...copper thieves will be ripping it off..
You betcha they will! A couple of years ago some yahoos ripped off the historic copper gutters on the whaling captain's house across the street. That is a Federal building and so is a federal crime. Talk about stupid...they also ripped off the historic plaque on our house...with our name on it...and got picked up by the police within 2 days. Our plaque nailed them.
So cheer up Beachie, maybe they will rethink it once they realize what they are in for!

Interesting. There are copper thieves in town. They periodically steal copper wires from the train station. hmmmm.
.
Every so often we hear on the morning news about some "brain trust" who got electrocuted stealing copper wire from a coal mine or a facility of some kind. That family had best NEVER go away for a weekend or a vacation. If it is really copper rather than copper-colored metal.

It's a weekend place. They are rarely there.

so that's the problem solved - it will be gone!

I moved to this place because of the lake views and small town. But in the past few years our neighbors next door both left side and right have grown their tree so high we cannot see the views of the lake.
The right side has some messy trees that end up marking our lawn furniture and making a mess of the seats. We have to sweep every day the new rug looks so bad as it pods/ flowers are staining the carpet.
Then the other left side he has cedars that are so high our guest seating on the balcony cannot see the lake very well, as the trees are grown so high and wide.
Then the neighbor behind our house has planted a large cherry tree and it is so big we cannot see around it plus his bamboo hedge is also tall. that neighbor behind us has smaller trees planted all down his property that a low cherry trees. But this one he has allowed to grow so big. The worst part of it is It will devalue our property. Which we had hoped to sell next year.
We are both concerned if we say any thing that might start hard feeling? Which would not be a good thing.
.
Re the hedge: Does your town have an ordinance about the height of fences and hedges? Ours does.
.
Nope ! not even what they can store in the yards. Unless it is in towns property. then that is a whole can of different worms...

You could offer to pay to have the trees pruned. ?? (we did that and the owner agreed.)

trying to add a picture, but when I click on the image icon, my browser freezes and I have to close.
I have the photo on my server, but when I click on 'browse' and on the picture, I can't click "ok."
Anyway, the picture is a good one to give you an idea of how crazy this house is. If someone with actual computer skills wants to post it, send my your email. TBH

it's the lament of many seaside towns. the people who can, come in to live there because it is such a beautiful place. then they wreck it by building too big or too many or, in this case, too fancy.
think the mansions on Nantucket. we don't want to be that. we like our seaside town..
That is why we thank our lucky stars the Feds moved in to buy up and protect the land and shore around here. They maintain the "historic vista" in our area and so we have the blessing of them maintaining the fields, protecting our views...no development or "improvements" allowed.
Of course we have to share the area with tourists, which can be a royal pain from time to time, but 99% of the time we are just plain thankful to be here.

Other parts of this "island" are not as fortunate...the McMansion crowd has moved in to change the quant, unassuming feeling of the place.
