I know some of you use wordpr ess for your websites, I've been seeing ads for Oxygen 2 on my FB feed.
I've done some reading and watched some tutorial vids on Yout ube but I don't understand the relationship between the two.
Can anyone help?
My website is looking rather old and outdated so one of my projects for this winter is to build a new one. Previously I've used Dreamweaver, but that seems clunky and old fashioned plus now you can't just buy it outright you have to have a monthly subscription and use online. I've been using the same copy for about 5 years now, I paid £350 for it, on their subscription basis that would have cost me £1,000+

Oxygen is the new visual builder for WordPress. Starts at $60 a year. I use Visual Composer, which used to be called WPBakery. There is also BeaverBuilder, Divi Builder, Elementor, Themify and a few others. The first four are the big guys. WPBakery has add-ons. It came with my theme, though I eventually bought a full licence and I added an add-on or two. I don't use the visual composer, instead I use their backend composer which is pretty cool.

Oxygen is a plugin (tool) and is not officially affiliated with WordPress or the creators of WordPress. So it is not "THE NEW visual builder for WordPress", it is "A visual builder for WordPress". It is not "new" and it is not "the"
WordPress 5.0 will come shipped with a thing called Gutenberg, which will replace the current WYSIWYG content creator/editor that has been in WordPress since early days.
Dreamweaver is a text editor with helpful coding functions, so it is also just a tool. You don't need it to use WordPress. You don't need it to create WordPress websites. Me as a coder/developer? Sure, I could use Dreamweaver, but I can also use many other text editors, including the standard Notepad in Windows. (the tool of choice for many coders is Sublime Text).
So I guess that you're seeing Oxygen ads on FB simply because you match their audience target: maybe you have joined some WordPress-related groups or liked certain pages.

I've been rebuilding my site using Divi. It creates a much more modern looking site than my current theme.
But I haven't launched yet, because
a) Once I convert over, I can't convert the content back to a different theme easily.
b) I still get lots of compliments about the current look of my site.

I find the complete white background a bit jarring.... to austere. But that's just me.
