We did his deliberately and it was an issue this weekend with a 10 year old. All of the TV's except the one in the common room are set up with no restrictions. (I don't want to listen to swearing or see nudity as I'm wandering around the house so the TV in the guest lounge is set for PG.)
This was a problem for a family sitting in the living room. They wanted to watch a TV show rated for mature audiences.
Do you have parental controls set up on TVs that are in common areas? (I was going to remove this TV but cannot do that because of the wireless box attached to it.)

No restrictions. Parents are responsible for their children, like they should be.

I thought all your rooms had tv now. Do you still have some without?.

Right, all the rooms have TVs which have no restrictions. The TV in the living room IS restricted, for my sensibilities. No idea why they needed to watch the show there.
I didn't want to unlock the restrictions because there were other guests walking thru who might not have wanted to see graphic violence.

It is your living room and your TV you shouldn't have to change a thing. Let them go to their own room and watch.

Take the tv out of there! Make it a quiet reading area. Now there is no reason to have a common tv.

I can't. In order to hook up all the TV's we had to go wireless. To do that we have to have one TV that is the 'home' for the wireless box. That TV can't be in a guest room, for all the reasons you can think of! So, I'm stuck with having to have the TV in the living room, still.
I've considered if we can move it into the basement and will ask Gomez what he thinks. It was my plan to not have a TV in the common space once they were in all the rooms. Best laid plans and all that.

Does the living room serve as your personal space? Can you put the tv into your personal space that is not guest accessible? I might do that
But I would NOT change the settings on a TV in a common area to accomodate a guest request to watch something you prefer not to be accesible in there. I'm sure you nicely told them they could watch the program in their room. They wanted to watch TV in the common area so they could spread out.
ps I had a TV in a part of the dining room that served as my living room when not at breakfast time. It was in a large TV armoir. I locked the armoir.

Nope, it's not my TV. I don't think I can move the TV to my side of the door because the building is so big. The signal probably won't be strong enough that far away.
Another reason I might not be able to put the receiver in the basement - signal loss.

Don't worry about it . Leave it as is. If guests want to see something they can go to their room. No explanation needed. The set gets what it gets end of conversation

ah well. Leave it as it is. They can watch in their rooms. Your b&b, your rules. As a guest I would never take issue with this.

Problem solved at our place: we have no TV's in the house, anywhere. Good strong and reliable Wifi and they plug in their headphones, in their rooms or the common areas. Those that want TV don't book with us. We are plenty busy enough even without TV's.

Yeah, I lost that no TV battle.

Sorry, but there is a big difference in the amenities expected in a room that rents for under $100 and one that is closer to $200 per night. TVs are expected in higher priced rooms.

Are you saying if that common area TV is turned off, or unplugged, none of the other TVs will work? I doubt that. I suspect the wireless will work fine if you leave the box in place, disconnect the TV from it and put the TV on eBay. The TV being there is not the magic. The box is the magic.

I agree with another poster that it is your place and your rules, but a question, is it the TV that provides the needed signal or a cable/satellite box from the provider that supplies the signal? You may need that box there, but seems like you could remove the TV if that was your choice.

What did you say?
I assume something along the lines of, 'the TV in your room gets that channel, this one doesn't."
While of course thinking, "seriously???? you're lucky there's a tv at all! you have no idea what we went through to supply TV's and now it's not good enough for your precious snowflake????"

If the receiver box is turned off the TV's won't work, yes. But it has to be connected to a tv in order to work. Even if that TV is turned off, it can't be unplugged.
Ok, after discussing this, Gomez is off to test the theory that the box has to be connected to the TV. He thinks the tech misunderstood the question.
Stay tuned...

Actually I was half asleep so I was kind of stupid with my answer. I forgot the TV had parental controls so I asked if their tv was doing the same thing. Then said I was sorry and would have to call tech support.
