Seems like the primary concern of most jurisdictions is how it affects collecting taxes or threatening their control over things, such as various cities fighting back against AirBnB or Uber.
I know here, they are warning about insurance issues. I have a rental property (house). The insurance is 3x higher since I have renters, instead of living in it myself. I find it more likely that it is more profitable for the insurance company, rather than that average renters are 3x more likely to destroy the property.
Someday, it would be nice to see a large collective of lodging and/or rental owners who banded together and created an insurance (nonprofit) cooperative. Wonder what the rates would be in that case. Interesting...
