As many of you know, I'm not at my inn and never see most of my guests. They book and pay online, I send them a keypad code to enter their suite (each suite has it's own outside door), they stay, they leave. My keypads are internet-connected so from any location I can set the day/time their code starts working, and the day/time it stops working.
My guests need to be pretty self-sufficient, since there's no staff on site to do things for them, and it works well. In 3+ years I've only been contacted a couple of times by guests needing help with something.
So I'm thinking I don't need the guest who sent this message today via Facebook...
I'm gonna reserve a room how long is the code good for like if we leave to go eat

Maybe they've never checked in to a place like yours.
Just tell them it's good for the length of their stay and automatically expires - like a hotel room card.

That's why I don't want them. Lots have never stayed at a place like mine, but they arrive and leave with no problems, or questions, and later write about how great it was. This one is bound to be problems. But he hasn't booked yet. Maybe the ResKey process will be too much for him and he'll go to a hotel, which is where he needs to be!
I'm guessing he thinks once he enters the code, the door remains unlocked until the code expires. Or something. I'm not going to try to figure him out!

haha Two songs come to mind
Hotel California - you can check out any time you like but you can never leave
and
Toyland - once you pass its borders you can never return again
or something like that.

(you can't 'go eat')

Their money is as green as anyone else's... I actually think I am quoting you, btw.

They will figure it out.

Update: He made the reservation (yes, the money is as green as any). One night, cheapest room. He was tech savvy enough to figure out how to do a ResKey rose in a vase add on and get me the information for the card. It's for the 1st wedding anniversary of a couple of his friends, and he is....drum roll....24 years old!

I'll report back on how it goes.
