What is making this stupid cat meow very loudly tonight right outside one of our guests door? Its really cute and I would love to take it inside and love it, but I can't, so instead I am running out into the night every 20 minutes chasing after in with a spray bottle...because it comes back, over and over again. I'm really tired, on the other hand I'm really excited to share my first wacky story as an innkeeper (intern). :) What do you do when the neighborhood animals interfere with guests' sleep?

Get a small pail for your water and dump it on it. It will decided to find another door to meow outside... your spray bottle is not wetting it enough. As for the meowing, the guests probably paid it attention today, fed it, etc and now it wants more. Our neighbor's cats are both wild so they don't want any interaction with guests.
You will learn something new each day! Enjoy the ride!

The stupid meowing cat at our place is OURS! He's decided to start having his breakfast beginning anytime starting 4:00 a.m. Inrecentlybswitched thrirvcat food and he finds it so delicious that he can't wait until my alarm goes off. He's decided to be my wake up call. Oh well. He gets an extra cuddle and a kiss and off to bed I go for another hour or so. That's what I get for being a crazy cat lady.

In the country, even on an island, the sounds are different. When we had the neighbor's dog barking, we had to ask the neighbor to help us minimize it. That was a gentle operation. On the other side and a bit distant, our neighbors have cows. They get a few mentions but seem to get a pass since it's distant enough and kind of cute. We have frogs, which are new to our world and we have had to manage them near the house. Kept at a distance, they become, along with the crickets, part of the night sounds. The wild pigs don't make much noise, but you can hear them crunching macadamia nuts next door sometimes. Opposing cats in the area have a boundary near us and when they meet at night, the sounds are epically frightening. Over the years, we have focused on it less and make light of it with our guests. It doesn't stress me like it used to.

It's part of nature! You can only handle what is in your control everything else should not be your burden to bare.
Happykeeper description is much similar to ours. The comments of the 'loud frogs and crickets tickle me the most. Usually mentioned by a 'city slicker' use to traffic and sirens all night long.

Nature can be loud! - "If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does it make a noise?"

It sounds like a really great place to visit with so much variety. And I am thankful that its not fighting cats, that would be so much worse.

We've had several summers of skunks coming up onto the porch. They don't make noise but they do scare people!

I have considered joining you cat ladies. Yesterday I named it, since it started meowing at the door to the innkeeper's quarters and greets me purring every time I walk out ...which is ok with me as long as it stays away from the front door.

Ha! If it is anything like our last cat, they will force you to love 'em. DH is not a cat lover, but our little Blacky would jump on his lap each time DH sat outside, within a week, there was love.

There aren't many sounds like two cats accidentally crossing paths in the neutral zone. Thank goodness they usually stagger their patrols, so it doesn't happen often.

So true... when we visit my brother in NYC, we have to remind ourselves to just replace all the natural sounds with sirens and clatter. It is interesting that of the many places we stayed recently in central European cities, we ended up in quiet areas without the racket we are accustomed to in NYC. Maybe we self select, cause when I read a review that talks about the street noise being a factor, I think twice.
