I hate my local grocery store floral

Sent Gomez out to get an ARRANGEMENT for a guest for this weekend. Guest paying, straight pass thru of cost. I did not want to arrange flowers. Flowers just arrived. They did not have any arrangements made up so the cashier threw a random bouquet in a glass jar, charged him $32 and called it good. Luckily, he also came home with another $10 bouquet of random flowers for the dining room. (Which I WAS going to arrange myself.)
Well, no flowers for the dining room after I got done picking out the dead flowers from the 'arrangement' which I also had to 'arrange'.
I hate them. If you don't know how to do an arrangement, say so. Ask the customer if it's possible to come back later in the day. But don't take a $10 'bouquet' out of the bucket by the register, grab a $5 vase off the shelf and call it an 'arrangement' and charge $32 for taking the plastic wrap off!
I think I should take the 'romance' package off the website. I get this way every time we have to get flowers. Not even a stinkin' card or 'Happy Valentine's Day' pick stuck in the top.

that's not on - we are lucky have a good firm walking distance away as sometimes we get calls on the morning of arrival for things which means we can fulfil quickly - however i appreciate many places do not have that advantage and what would you have done if you did not have the dinning room flowers to add? I will say at least for my DH he has a very good eye for that kind of thing and would not have stood for it.

I don't blame you for being steamed.
I used to work in a florist. I can't imagine why a flower shop, even one in a market, would not have dozens of already put together arrangements ready for a holiday like Valentines Day. The others are Easter, Mothers' Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Exactly! That's why he got them today to avoid the crush tomorrow. I figured they'd have a lot of them made up. He said all they had were really small ones with a couple of flowers.
The 'highlight' flower was practically see thru it was so old. Half the petals were off.
The small grocery store in town has more vibrant flowers but the are usually florescent colors.

I would sent a letter. If it's your local grocery store, start by telling them what you like about the place, whatever it is and then say something like, that because the son-and-so departments are so good, that you're very disappointed with the poor quality/service/whatever of the floral department. Ask them, no, tell them how they can go about making it better.

I do not have flowers at my grocery, but am fortunate to have a florist in town. She gives me a bribe bouquet with an hour notice and charges me under $40 for bouquet & boutonniere (red roses)

I would have returned it. Our local grocery has sets of flowers with longevity guarantees on them, 3 days, 7 days, 10 days, etc. If they don't last that long, you bring it back with the receipt and money back, no questions asked.

The lone guy to ask for flowers is about 78 years old.

If they droop or rot or lose their petals, he won't notice no matter how much time he spends serving and cleaning up breakfast.

When I put flowers out in the breakfast room, I have to make it a point to check on them daily (remember, I'm at work in the city, he runs the inn.)
If they droop or rot or lose their petals, he won't notice no matter how much time he spends serving and cleaning up breakfast.

A reason why I only have flowers where I can see them everyday. Not in the rooms, where it might be a few days before someone checks in! I killed a lovely plant because I forgot about it over the winter. It sat, poor thing, in the upstairs hallway of the inn screaming for water but I never heard it. I went to clean the rooms to reopen and there it was - dead. PO's had hanging plants in a lot of rooms. Those had to go.
This year I remembered to grab the replacement plant in December and move it into my house.

we just kill them - then I feel super guilty - so cut flowers now and again and only in the lounge as I get hay fever and don't want them everywhere.

Friend & me buying some plants. Friend looking down at my plants says, "How long do you thing it will take you to kill them." I have silk arrangements here & there around the house - ALL of them were presents (or unwanted door prizes).
