My web site helper needs a shove. So I am asking .....how do you put/announce things of interest (rotating events) on your entry home page. I want a square on my home page right top corner to fill in and erase events with a I see a need. Local events , an lonely empty room neading a friendly guest, College Grad . dates, etc. How is this done, I ask before.

Have your person look at this. You put your text in the middle and the color border is around the outside. I used this info a lot when I did my old site.
If your site is not using css there are directions that don't use CSS. Your person can search for the directions on this site. Lots of info!

Coding won't help you, because you are not using wordpress. Unless your "helper" knows php coding or can find some sort of scripting for you to use.
You really should get with the times and get into a new site with wordpress.
If you were in wordpress, you could do it all yourself and not need a helper.

If your person can't figure it then I will get my old site off the memory stick and copy the code I used.

That works. The problem with the first one was that it had a blank space added on to the end of the link.

No. WordPress will not help you do anything. Think of wp as a thing rather than a person.
You need to find your own web hosting service. Do a Google search, there are tons of them out there. You want one that will host a wp site altho must of them should.
Big names you will have heard of - go daddy is one. 1+1 is another.
Many will want to build the site for you or offer discount rates if you allow them to place an ad for their service on your site. Don't do it.
If no one else has a website how do they get found in this day and age?

I have this with a local village in the dales - many have removed online booking from their web sites! as they "want to communicate with the guests" pointed out "guests may not want to communicate with you!"

I will just say... if you don't know a thing about doing a website. DON't DO IT YOURSELF! Nothing worse than a do it yourselfer website. Get a pro to do it for you. Then once it is done have them show you how you can edit it yourself. Make sure they use Wordpress to create the site.

I believe you about the website, but saw someone else's using WIX and it looked great. Everything it needed. He did say however that if I needed so help, he could. So maybe that is the "help" you are referring to. I just want to do the right thing, get it done right the first time, and not have to go back and fix things or worry that it is not working right. Let me check on a few things, the area of expats down there might have some freelancers that I could hire. Would check their work. So far I know I want:

Joey, tried to call you ,saw no tele on your site .....but the little bit I will say is he does not work on our type of site/computer. Will teach me how to do it myself ,when he is back in D.C.
He is not the person who did my site years ago, it was a college student who developed it.
