My baby brother was born Dec 18 in the days when it was a 10 day stay in the hospital after giving birth (especially if there were 3 other kids at home and you lived on a farm - it meant relaxation!) however my Mother was allowed to go home after 7 days because it was Christmas. My brother came home in a size 1 suit (and it fit). He was 24 inches long (only my sister was less @ 21) and weighed in at 11 lbs 15 1/2 oz.
Mom was very careful to alwys have a birthday present for him that was not one of his Christmas presents wrapped in birthday paper.
