You know I'm the one who takes everything to heart, the one who gets upset. Now Gomez is ready to throw in the towel. Got a horrific review today. I think I mentioned before the guests were very unhappy at check in but we thought they would improve. Nope. They just waited to lambaste us on TA. Gomez is very discouraged. We do our darnedest and you know it's been a rough few months for us. He's done most of the guest interaction because I'm a basket case a lot of the time. Response is written already. I don't even have it in me right now to throw a fit. We'll drop to the bottom of TA on the next 'update' and there we will stay until next summer when the guests come back.
Now we need to move on.
Actually, Gomez would be happy to shut down right now and not open again until summer. We have almost zero guests for the next 2 months so why bother.

I am so sorry about the review. That sucks. As if there had not been enough.
I went through most of the season with a next month will be better hope. For the most part - did not happen. I have my Vets free for 3 nights and then nothing until Thanksgiving Wednesday when the Turkey Trot timekeeper stays free. Next up will be the annual 2-nights in January for the accountant for a company in town. I will pray for a better year for both of us.

Some times you just need a small break and some times you need a longer one. Sounds like, with all you have both been through lately, you could use a longer break this winter. I am so sorry to hear that those unhappy guests decided to take it out on you.

That kind of review hits you right in the gut....and at a time when you can not bury it with your usual great reviews.
If you get a chance to relax and enjoy a bit of life Gomez will feel differently about inn keeping. We have all been there. It takes a bit of rest and some time to recharge.
If you find your way down here let us know... we are closed for the season and have a secluded cottage that makes the world go away!

Okay.... why not? take some time off. What's the point of doing all that work if it's just 1 or 2 people. Open weekends only, if you want.

Good Golly! That review is such a perfunctory outlier that no one is going to pay attention to it, and neither should you two. Annoying yes, but no fault of yours.
So cheer up and note that you have tons more bookings than us the next two months.

The only reason to give it any attention is that it will drop us to the bottom of the list on ta. As it is we've already dropped to 5th since it came out yesterday.
Hate to say it, but we get a lot of guests who say they found us on ta. Most people won't need to go any further down the list than 3rd place before they've found a room.
So that's why it's so annoying.

Terrible sorry this has happened to you! Don't know what to say!

You have to remember my mantra "Its not you its them" those kind of people there is no doing anything with and you might as well just write them off - I know when they arrive like that there will be nothing you can do and don't take anything they do or say to heart! think of all the super guests who love your place!
Could you email any of your fans and do a bit of tripadviser prompting?

This makes me sick. So sorry.
Individuals like these have way too much power in this system. It's not fair.

I know, I know. We had managed to escape all year without a review below 4 or 5, then suddenly we get a 3 from someone we did a single Saturday night for and apparently wanted a more modern place, not authentic 1888. The review was nonsense and I responded tongue-in-cheek, but what aggravates me most is that we fell to 4.5 stars??? Still hasn't gone back up with two more 5 Star reviews. Seriously? 21 prior reviews (19-5 Star, & 2-4 Star) and a silly 3 star drops us .5 star?
I agree that you should try reaching out to some of your best guests, explain the stinky situation and see if they will help you out. And if you dump Super Inns and switched to a format that used TripConnect, you automatically go to the top of the search list no matter your ranking.
Seems to me it's a good time to make that switch. I began using RKey as a test beginning November 2013, plenty of time to set up and acclimate during the dead zone. By December, I'd decided and shipped John our 8 years of past data which he converted and by the beginning of the year, we were all set. Not one regret.

We have a new inn in town who has a handful of reviews and we had that wing nut write a neg review, he wrote a neg review everywhere he went and was a young college punk. Said our place is "made in china stuff" - which our guests comment on ALL the time as they read the negs first, who doesn't. Made in China? Whatever. But those who read it still read it "STRIKE THAT FROM THE RECORD! JURY, DISREGARD THAT COMMENT" I will say in my best lawyer voice.
They laugh and say how absurd and off base he was, like your guests will say to you.
Unfortunately, said new inn in town just made a video boasting they are the #1 B&B in our town. As the punk dropped us to #2, and that is where it hurts, the pocket book also hurts.
I am very very sorry, when you have gone through what you have gone through you realize that all the niggly piggly crap people knock you down for is just that, crap. They would have found something else to dislike, you know that, Gomez knows that. The title of the review was perfect, as that about covers it all round.
Tell G we love him, and this too shall pass, and you will be on your way to the next turkeys...

Going to switch over the winter. Definitely need to change to something that works with OTA's.
And, yeah, it takes forever to reclaim your 5 stars. This happens to us once/year.

Yes, it does take forever for some of us... but for others... say CFI: since June they've had 24 reviews, that breakdown as follows: 7-5 Star; 11-4 Star; and 6-3 Star, and they still have an overall 5 Star rating???? The 5 Stars are scattered in between. Perhaps Lark affiliates have more clout? I actually think they had a few 2 Stars recently that magically disappeared... something is rotten in TA Land.

My favourite Pet Peeve is a local B&B that keeps on posting fake reviews... asking friends to post them, etc. I posted to TA a few days ago pointing out what doesn't make sense.
I lost half an eye for a half year and the numbers never added up to why... especially when I rated better than those with full eyes. This year I'm down down down the list and yet full. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I'm fully electronically bookable when most aren't.
I agree that Mort has to get her booking over to RK and get things more automated.

We had an innkeeper on here last year who was complaining about how they had more and better reviews but they were consistently down the list from places with fewer and worse reviews.
I always thought it was pay to play. You pay ta, either thru a biz listing or you let them get a commission on a sale, and you move up the list.

We have a biz listing and lots of TConnect PPCs. Dots do not connect.

I've been stuck at #6 in my town for over 2 years, and 1-5 fill up before I do. I am convinced that the only way we will ever move is by a negative review - either mine or one for #s 1-5. I don't get it. I would like to wring the neck of the person who ever came up with that algorithm. Makes me nuts!

We started at 1. It's taken 11 years of my tenure to get us to 5. ;-)
