I feel my rate is pretty comparable to a good portion of the directories that I have seen, ...swirt,Micah you seem like a nice enough guy. You have to realize though that most of the members here receive 3 or more spam contacts a week from some new directory starting up and promising to be promising.catlady,What kind of exposure do you expect from a new and unknown site? Don't count on it.I'll bite!As you can see it was brought to our attention there were issues with our secure form (at the time it was not secure apparently).Hi GetInnStyle and welcome to Innspiring.
You may want to get your form that asks for creditcard info onto a secure connection.
http://www.getinnlisted.com/AddListing.aspx
Penalties for such things have gone from huge, to HUGE..
We had disabled the form while we worked on the issue and we have now re-enabled it after further tests. We triple checked our changes to the form and are confident this issue will not arise again. We had some development code which basically gave us a positive result when in reality it was not, we have removed this code, changed some additional code and implemented additional tests on our side to make sure everything is indeed secure.
No Credit Cards other than my own have been processed through this form so far so no one else needs to be worried about that.
We appoligize for the possible mis-conception of our security and take full responsibilty when it is not.
We hope we have not lost your trust in us and to show our appreciation we are offering the next 5 Inn Keepers to reply to this thread a free 12 month listing, no credit card required.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me at [email protected].
Thank you,
Micah

Free 12 month exposure = wicked!

You are right that we are basically an unknown site, we are a new site and I understood that would be an issue. Which is one reason I'm working my tail off promoting the site as much as possible, I have advertisments going on right now, I'm posting on forums such as this one, I'm adding myself to other resource directories, I have a twitter account http://twitter.com/GetInnStyle setup where I make annoucements, I tweet when a new listing is added, I have been offering a giveaway similar to what I offered here to help try and grow my services so that it is indeed a useful site to those who use it.
GetInnListed.com is new we will be small for a while but I am positive we will continue to grow and be a site truly worth while.
I work hard to keep my customers happy and will do whatever I can do get them what they need. I'm offering a free lisiting to you (If you have an inn) and you don't seem to want to take it even though it costs you nothing. Exposure is exposure whether it's big or small. Even if you were to get only two new guests a year from our site it would pay for a listing and make it worth while, the fact that you could get a free listing makes it even less risky.
Either way, if you want a listing please let me know, if not, then I think you're missing out on a great opportunity to get in early on a new service that is doing a lot to promote those that list on our site.
Thanks for your comments, good or bad we always appreciate them.

There is very little that separates yours from theirs ... other than your yearly fee, which is 5-10 times what most start-up directories are asking for. So far you make all the same mistakes they do and have nothing to show that you are any better than any of the other start-ups that have made great claims about traffic only to deliver very little.
You also have to realize that statements like this
Even if you were to get only two new guests a year from our site it would pay for a listing and make it worth while,
make it pretty obvious that you don't know this niche that you are trying to represent. No innkeeper wants to bust their hump for 2-4 roomnights to break even on the cost of being in your directory.
Many have also learned that a free listing can come back to bite them. Most of us are listed on plenty of free directories that are completely out of date so that means contact info or rate info is all wrong. How did all these free listings get out there? Some company thought they could make some fast money by putting together a directory on the cheap, then they stop supporting it or updating it and it just sits there, creating headaches for innkeepers for years to come.
Aren't you a bit curious why the hundreds of innkeepers who come through this forum each day aren't falling all over themselves to take advantage of your free offer? The members here are pretty savy and can spot things that give them reason to not bother.
The one thing that you have going for you is that you came here and have conducted yourself well (others in your same position have run off in a huff).

Thanks for seeing that I'm a nice guy
Your right, I didn't fully realize your members receive such a high number of spam contacts for directories such as mine. With that in mind, I have looked at quite a few directories and when I look at them I think to myself "What a poorly designed and maintained site" as what many of your members also think. When I see something like that I think "I can do better, I can have a nice, clean easy to use site" and then I start researching deeper and try to determine if it's something that would be worth my time in the long run. With my site, I think it is worth it.
Origianally I was just going to be GetInnStyle.com because I have seen so many Inns that look amazing but their sites don't always represent that and my goal is to offer a solution for them. (That was my original plan) So I built the site, built a great admin panel and launched it, and now I'm promoting it as much as possible.
Whenever I told people about my site, they always asked why I didn't have a directory to list sites in as well, which got me thinking about expanding. So that is what I did, and will continue to do in the next couple of weeks. If I was out to get a quick buck this niche would not be the place to do it as you mentioned.
As far as my fee, it is higher than some directories, my response would be, look how your members got burned on those sites. As they say "You get what you pay for". I feel my rate is pretty comparable to a good portion of the directories that I have seen, but there are always exceptions. Right now my rate is based roughly off of 50 cents per day, there are very few things you can get anymore for 50 cents per day.
With that said, I'm open to suggestions, if your members think my rate is to high, I will ask you then to suggest a rate that you think would be more accurate and I will see if we can reach a compromise.
You mentioned that I dont' have much else to offer from other directories, please please suggest features that you all would like to see, I'm still in early stages of what the site will be and I am certainly open to suggestions, the more the better.
The point you have about listings getting out of date and being inaccurate, I think this is something that is the responsibility of both the Inn Keepers and the directory owners. I am glad you raised that point as I will now add to my list to send out an email to the inns in my directory every 12 months or so to request information updates they may have. Secondly, on my listing page I say in the initial paragraph to contact me anytime with information that needs to be updated.
I hate spam as well, I have nearly 10 email accounts and I understand the frustration with spam. I will never email an Inn to try and get them to list with us, I will never post new topics on forums trying to sell my service over and over. I very specifically chose the right areas on the resources page for my two services and have not posted more than that other than to answer questions and to interact with your guests.
This is getting long so I'll wrap it up:
Customer service i #1 for me, if you are not happy, then I'm not happy.
Post your suggestions for Listing rate & Features
Thank you for the discussions and I hope they continue.
Micah

Sorry. Not even close. You are $10 more expensive than bbonline.com and you are never going to come close to delivering the kind of traffic they do.
Given the two members you have, I can tell that your method of only breaking it down state by state will not be the end user experience our potential GUESTS will need. Nor wil they be the search engine "hooks in the water" WE need.
