The high season has ended, mostly weekends and single weekday guests and all of a sudden I realize... I can have a life again! I can leave the house with impunity during the day. I can live!
So, what did I do first? Took friends to the station. Stripped a room fully and put it through the laundry! Sometimes it's so hard to remember what to do to fill my hours.

We decided 3 years ago to no longer do those 4-5 month runs with no time off. I was not a happy camper by the end of August.

Now that you have the track record you can definitely make informed decisions! We've found the last week of August to be mostly dead but very hard to handle for the few guests who do book.
Of course, this changes depending on when Labor Day falls.

We're not closed but we're having work done on the house so we'll be schlepping suitcases for guests because of the disruption in where the entryway will be.

We've been completely full until this week. We are half full now but booked up on the weekends.
I think next year we will close the last week in June and the first week in September just to have a life. DH is getting a tad snappy at me. He needs a break.

When I have my spurts I understand.
Here in Podunk I would be happy with a 10 day stretch. I will get a 4 or 5 night stretch with ins & outs back-to-back that invariably come when things are busy with Himself or the City. That is the life of being in a non-tourist area with a couple thousand new hotel rooms in the last 5 years. Reason why I get excited about going to a Conference (even one i have to pay for like next week). I only made it to Europe because my cousin I call my big brother sent me a ticket. BUT being un-busy allows me to be involved in my City. It is a trade-off. Not complaining - just thinking of the revenue that would be and wondering if it would be worth it to my knees. Probably not. I take what I can get.

WV Governor's Conference on Tourism. Sunday I will visit & stay with a friend who is an hour closer (saves 1 night at the hotel) and leave her house early Monday to be there for the opening. I will come home Wednesday afternoon. Have a meeting Wednesday at 6 PM. Actually have a guest Friday before I leave. Woohoo. Then, unless the phone rings, nothing until my Vets come for 3 nights. Which pretty much ends the year for here.

Just got back from a road trip. DH was sprung from hosp, I extended our 'closed' days for some extra time, and gosh, amazing what a week and a half of

doing the housekeeping and meals will do for your disposition!
Now we're moving our bedrooom to what was formerly an office (large) and turning our old bedroom (the only one without a private ensuite bath) into the new linen and supply storage and ironing room. We set up the shelving and hauled the large and heavy new-to-us folding table in the new linen and storage room this afternoon. DH's new office will be in a small downstairs room, formerly our "room of requirement".
Guests on Friday.
I'll be ready!

It's a great feeling, isn't it?! We have just survived our 15th busy season. One more week to go with a few guests and a couple of small weddings and we're closed for a month. Time to take our long awaited vacation.
