Bell rang at 10 PM. Good thing we were up, we generally retire at 9:30.
Ummmm, the bed broke. WHAT? Yeah, the bed broke.
Hubby fixed it temporarily so they could sleep.
Today, the guy is apologizing for breaking the bed. Don't want details, but I guess he takes responsibility.
Hubby told me he can fix it.
 
I designed our beds to hold 1200 pounds of "live" load.

I found a broken bed being held up by books duct taped together and a foot rest lodged under the center of the bed. I supposed the guests who checked out were embarrassed to say something. And then got an email from them telling me the bed was like that when they checked in! Had a talk with chambermaids, one finally admitted noticing the books piled under the bed 'weeks ago' and said she assumed I did that to hold the bed up. And she said she was always careful to vacuum around them before putting down the dust ruffle to hide it.

Yes, I always repair furniture with books and duct tape. So ... who knows when it got broken? I then went from room to room checking each bed.
 
Oh my.. We've had this happen before. I think the guest was more embarrassed for having to tell us about it. Still not something you want to have to deal with. Glad it all worked out!

Yes, I always repair furniture with books and duct tape. So ... who knows when it got broken? I then went from room to room checking each bed..
Before we got all new bed frames we used to put heavy duty PVC pipe under the center of the frame.

I really hate it when our cleaning people decide it is not important to let me know when something is not working properly in one of our guestrooms. Many times I have to hear it from a guest or I notice it when I walk through the rooms. I wish I could figure out a way to get them to simply tell us so we can fix things.

The best I have found is using texts to communicate. Its there to remind you later. Also we all have our favorite room which we make it our priority over the others. (each has a different favorite)

Do they have a work sheet with them? They could note it on there. Our housekeeper texts himself a list of what he needs in each room. (I did mention he might want to train himself to remember for five minutes that he needs 2 sets of towels, but I'm old...) If your housekeepers have their phones with them, they could text problems to you.
 
They do get a report we print with the list of rooms needing to be cleaned. We've tried getting them to write problems down on that, we've tried maintenance forms but neither has worked. I like the texting idea. I'll give that a try.

ive tried it that way with 50% success rate - think part of the problem is they don't know how to tell what is important

I also tell them that altho tips are minimal, they are zero if there is something broken in the room.
We haven't had a lot of broken stuff, but I still can't get them to dust properly. I need to work on that.

Everything is important! From your face shining back at you on the toilet seat lid to the lights, fireplace/AC, and ceiling fan coming to life when I flick on the switch, its all important to give a sense of comfort, rest, and "I'm in good hands" to the guest walking into the room for the first time.
 
Our queen bed was "broken" on our "shake-down" by a single lady - in trying to sit on the bed to put on her shoes (she would not fit in the chair in the room), she pushed the sides apart and the slats fell out. Himself was able to climb stairs and do things back then and wired the sides together with heavy cable and toggle bolts. It has been moved to another room and is still in use - over 20 years later without one slat dropping.
