Guest came to the door yesterday morning to offer her services. Said she had a few decorating tips. Hubby offered me up to her. She had more than a few! I thought she might have ideas on curtains or something. But she had suggestions on everything - the mantle, the breakfast tables, furniture we didn't need. And she suggested that each room should have a theme.
The best was the art. She thought the focal point art over her bed would look better on a different wall. So she took a painting off one wall to switch it with the one over the bed - to see how it looked. Unfortunately, the hook came out of the wall with the painting, so she didn't complete the switch, but don't I see how it would change the room?
After they left, Hubby put the hook back into the wall and rehung the removed piece.
She was a delight. We loved talking to her, but I think, leave my stuff alone.
Funny post script - she inspired my friend and me to rethink the mantle and I really do think it looks better now! So it was a good thing.

I have note pad in each room where I ask for suggestions. Most of them are ridiculous and not going to happen, but once in a while I get a really good suggestion, so it's worth putting up with the bad ones.

On reason the bigger piece is not on this wall is that it is old fashioned plaster. Can 't put anything heavy there.

I'm happy (well, mostly) to hear suggestions but please don't rearrange the rooms.
Had a wonderful guest who stayed eight nights every August. But he spent the first three hours after check in rearranging the furniture to suit him. And then did not put it back when he left because he really thought his way was better. So we got to clean in corners seldom seen but then dragged it back into place. He liked to put the desk in front of the window but this blocked the view of the harbor. Things like that.

Including size of painting as well as the weight of it. An oil might be fine but a watercolor or colored pencil of the same size would not - the glass, matting, and frame would be too heavy. Himself put double anchors (about 6 inchess apart) into the plaster for each of his paintings. 24x 36 with glass is HEAVY.

We used to have a woman like that - plants everywhere according to her - im like nope they will all end up dead that's why there are no plants here - I killed them all

When we got here there were plant hooks in every room. I moved all the plants out of the rooms and then killed them off.
Oddly, I still have a plant that came in an arrangement I received in 1988. I do have several plants I've lugged around since the 80's. Only one new plant has survived.
