Bedding Options for Guest Beds - Duvet or Blankets or Throw/Bedspread...What is best for coastal inn?

Hi - We are under contract for our island inn

and I'm trying to work out what would be the best option for guest bedding. I'm fine with choosing the bed linen, but am unsure as to what may be guest preferences on bedding i.e. duvet, blankets, bedspreads etc. If you hve any experience you'd be willing to share, we'd really appreciate it.

If I were starting over now I would go with duvets with easy wash covers. You can get them in different weights depending on how cold it gets where you are when you’re open.
Covers with zippers are so much easier than buttons!
You’ll need 2 per bed so you can toss them in the wash but still be able to get the room done quickly.
Go with light colors or white as the darker colors show every bit of sunblock or face lotion, etc.
Throw a small pillow on the bed for a pop of color. They should also have washable covers.

Hi, just my 2 cents worth. I have a beach side B and B. I hate Duvets ,hate! The insides bunch and they are a pain to put on. We use light weight cotton quilts. I have 2 per bed and alternate them. In-between guests we use a steam refresh cycle on our washing machine. We was and switch out quilts every two weeks. Our quilts are all beach themed and brightly colored. I did not want to look like every other hotel. I ordered all my bedding on line from North Carolina beach themed quilts. We also put a brightly colored throw at the foot of each bed. I am not a bright white person.

I’m also not the biggest fan of the duvet. However, I’d find them much easier if I had all the same colors and sizes. I’ve not been able to find king duvets that fit in the king covers.
We have blankets and quilts on the beds now. In the winter I have blankets, quilts, AND duvets on the beds. And we still get guests asking for more layers! I recommend they turn the heat on. Oh no, we like it cold!
Our quilts are all different colors and patterns.

I have sewed velcro tabs or ties at the corners of my duvet covers and comforters/down-filled duvets. I hated the covers until found this. It is now easy-peasy - even the king-size. I am doing this alone.

Greetings, I found that triple sheeting is the best. Quick to change and make beds, guests and housekeepers enjoy how clean it looks and I'm a self proclaimed clean freak. One peice of advice however would be to have the good quality sheets for the guest skin and the top a oversized (I use harbor linen as my top sheet) flat sheet that is a blend.
If you haven't ever done triple sheeting its quite easy and takes no time at all, keeps cost on linens down as well. YouTube has many instructional videos.

Hi! Our Inn is beachfront and we find triple sheeting to be the best option. We use all white bedding and had brightly colored scarves made for the foot of the beds. This provides a crisp, clean, and easy to manage bedding.

I had all white linens for our Southern inn and liked that look. I had lighter weight white or cream "coverlets" for Summer and in the Winter I'd put comforters at the foot of the bed. Knowing how hard I worked to maintain and store all that, I'd definitely do it differently now. I love triple sheeting and the *clean* look that places are going to now. Tarah at Elizabeth Point has a great idea with the scarves or something at the foot of the bed that can be easily laundered because folks will throw their luggage up on the bed even if you give them benches, ottomans, and/or multiple luggage racks!

Something easy to wash for sure. I worked in a hotel, and was disgusted to find out they didn't wash the duvet covers (only if necessary). They said it was too time consuming and an added expense. Goodness only knows what people do on them.

We switched out the bed quilts for Comfy duvets and seasonally-appropriate comforters. The comforter has loops on each corner and we attached ties to the inside corners of the duvet to make the comforter secure. It took several washings to relax the Comfy duvet material and release the wrinkles but now it's easy peasy to install the comforter in the duvet. The duvet gets washed after every guest to comply with the new Covid rules.
