Well Monday our new guests arrived in the self contained cottage.
Hubbie turns up with the Au Pair and the 2 year old, only to say immediately when my husband welcomed them that he didn't think the place was going to work for them. He didnt unpack the car even a little - instant dislike to the cottage - and he was coiled up as tight as a spring.......
Successful athelete wife turns up 20 minutes later coming down a boggy fire trail that we specifically warn guests away from (we have very good access the other direction) obviously not reading our confirmation email.
Wife 8.5 months pregnant arrives to hubbie who has already and constantly phoned to tell her, constantly saying "this place isn't suitable for us". (She booked it) He says "the holiday wont be relaxing enough as the place is too good for his 2 yr old (wife has been away for a week on a course) and she will pull it apart".
The air between the pair PALPABLE.
I go down and explain we can make the property even more child friendly, but he shouldn't worry as indeed we have little children all the time.
No he says "lets go", wife starts to cry.
She says" It isn't what I thought it was" - it was like she was in trouble from Husband for choosing us. I need to rest and not worry.
I explained the video and website is extensive and has many photos and a video, and I explain that we could have booked it to others (we are back to back booked) and so I'm sure he understands we cannot refund (we have an extensive fair and careful cancellation policy) and yes he understands but he says they will leave anyway.
5 minutes later they ring to say they are staying.
OMG they stayed and now its three nights so far they haven't lit the fire once (its super cold over here).
Its so painful I have 150 photos on a vast website, 3 YOUTUBE videos going through the 3 cottages. I mean I freak out when my husband moves a painting - I am sooooo very careful not to alter what we advertise.
It is super clear we have log fires in fact it is our main selling point. Its a 1st or second sentence catch cry for us. Log fires Privacy, self contained farm animals.........
Anyway He, She, them.... will be leaving on Friday - good riddance.
WHY don't people read and research better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've done this for 13 years and I know not to oversell.. They are acting like we are the bad guys......
Who wants to go away at 8.5 mths pregnant anyway!

OH my that is a rough go for sure. It is always hard when people do not appreciate what we have done . We all go so far for our guests I don't think many just know how much time and efford we invest into our business.
Pictures say a thousand words and so we do also in what we write on our web site. Now we know they don't read and obviously they don't look either. I feel for you it going to be a long few days . Hang in there.

Why don't people read and research better ....... my theory they don't value money . I send a " BnB Confirmation- Print & Read" rarely is printed or read. Too much money and live a very rushed life ......

Praying that she doesn't go into labour, that all you need right now!

You cannot "win". It is THEIR drama. She is to make the arrangements (reservations) so he can criticize them. You did not back down about the charges so he will be magnanimous and stay. Control is the name of the game. At least he said your place was "too good". Now hope the little darling did NOT destroy the place.

Sorry you're going through this. That pit in your stomach will leave as soon as they do. None too soon though!

Hope the father over emphasizes the little darling's actions. Or maybe it is because he doesn't want to watch the kid and the Mom needs the break before #2 comes along.

I think the worst about this situation is that they are so thoughtless in the way they let you know that they picked the wrong place for themselves. Don't they know that you fret now over every little thing they bemoaned?
I have been in the same situation many years ago. Matter of fact, that was before the advent of websites. Sort of understandable then but today, c'mon - you should not feel bad even one little bit. These people are wrong and they have done you wrong. So there!

I am not worried about what the little one is going to do ... there's an au pair with them, right? And you hve little children there all the time, right?
I suspect marital trouble - but that's the way my mind works. Arriving separately is just plain odd ... and not lighting the fire on cold nights? why? ugh sad

People are freaks.
BTW the most glorious morning here, ever, and had a breakfast delivery to the cottage and the table was chained upright to two bikes. Nice. You ask for delivery and then chain up the table to your bicycles? Really?
And breakfast to the dining room.
And a three night from across the country (southern something...with big bear on flag and special dietary requirements that I had to shop for) did not show. I was up at 3am running the card in full. for their daughters college graduation...no idea what will come of this, will they red eye in and show up this morning? nice of them to let us know. I am a wreck this morning...could not go back to sleep of course.

I had snow this morning. Yikes!

Joey,
Did they ever show up? My guess is that they went to some other place by mistake and that other place had had a cancellation so they just kept them!
