All lodging shut down

Governor shut down all non-essential lodging starting this weekend. IE - no tourists. Anyone traveling into the state has to self-quarantine for 14 days.
We had already closed off our calendar a couple of weeks ago. All of our May guests are slowly canceling. Looks like our entire income this spring will be in cancellation fees. ;-) Good thing we finished all our major renovations years ago.

The CEO said it takes 3,? (can't remember the .) MILLION per day to operate. They are generating just over one million currently because of the services they are not able to do now waiting "for the surge". As of this morning we have now had 3 deaths in the entire State

Yes, we were. They finally dragged someone across the border. We are surrounded by 5 States and it was someone near the DC side that was the first. We have 4 or 5 in our County - so far none in Shinnston - about 200 in the State.
We were already so far down the food chain economically that it did not take much to dump us in the black hole. Tourism is our main economy - and you know where that is right now.
What we have going for us is the fact that we WERE so far down the food chain that we are used to getting by with very little. Some of you pay more in all your taxes than I gross in a year to give you an idea of how things are here. Many jobs pay less than $10 per hour but we get by - and that is what many West Virginians consider OK because we live with beauty around us, most are outdoorsmen, and most people have a garden and can that garden. It is hard to explain to outlanders. And, we take care of our own.

I thought the first case was a local. Someone who resides in WV and was unable to get tested for a week or so because there were no tests and then no doctor or hospital would allow him on the premises to even verify what he had.
But, who knows. Maybe it was a tourist. Not an actual resident.
We’re also lucky to live in an outlier state. All our farm stands are open with fresh veggies, dairy, and meats. Lots of fresh fish as well.
Grocery stores are hiring. Several of our small, local shops are working with health care providers to make masks they can use to protect the good masks from getting dirty.
My health insurance provider is so small they actually called to ask if I was ok.
We’ve been mostly ok given how spread out we are. We’re amusing ourselves and getting by.

He was someone who lives in WV but works in DC. Martinsburg is 50 miles from DC and even has a commuter train. I think they now have cases in 28 of our 55 Counties - 5 in my County. But out of 1.8 million population in the entire State, the case count is a bit more than 200 with 3 deaths (all who had underlying complications). The nursing home that had the first of that variety of outbreak, had (I think I remember hearing) NO deaths - they ALL recovered.
My State is so small that finding a dead body anywhere in the State makes Statewide news and if it is a murder, the trial and outcome is statewide news.

The first case in EVERY state came from someone who came in from outside, of course. In our county's case, one of our farmers went to Louisiana to buy some farm equipment, and bought it back with him.
Our county health department did a great job of tracking down and quarantining everybody he had contact with, and so far his father is the only person who he infected. So, after 10 days, we just have 2 cases, and soon they will be over it and we'll have zero again...we hope!
Someone once falsely quoted a Chinese philosopher saying, "May you live in interesting times." Well, we do, and it's not one bit of fun!

I haven't kept up with our governor's requirements, but our county and neighboring county shut down all lodging a week ago including individual short term rentals, yes with that bit of wiggle room too, but a chamber of commerce survey showed most motels/hotels/inns closed with a few remaining available for those special needs. Me, I'm chicken, my reservations were blocked before the order arrived.

I’ve continued to extend my closed rooms well into May. I have one family still on the books for Memorial Day, but they’ll soon cancel.

I’ve continued to extend my closed rooms well into May. I have one family still on the books for Memorial Day, but they’ll soon cancel.

As of today, we have nothing from March 13 until June 11. All cancellations or reschedules. [And boom, three rooms for June 12 just rescheduled for September]

So after all the time and work and worry and money put in to this so far, that leaves 326.6 million Americans who still must catch it and develop immunity. (Hoping/assuming recovered people have immunity.)
How long would it take at the current rate of 400,000 new cases/month, to get our population immune? I calculate it would take 68 years, at this rate, for us all to catch it and develop immunity. So that route is impossible.

We're going to HAVE to slowly open things back up, while maintaining distancing and hand washing and all, until they get a vaccine, in 12-18 months. It's the people in the cities who will really be hurting. Hard for them to run subways and buses and keep people 6' apart.

Totally agree. The elephant in the room is this.
When we all open back up and start taking reservations again what happens as innkeepers if we happen to get it? We have to be away from everyone for 14 days. So what happens then to our current guests we have staying or for future guests during the time we essentially have to close? It's like a ticking time bomb. We are all just waiting around until we get it. You all know for a fact we will get it! Its just when and then how will we deal with our guests? This just really sucks!

To go with your numbers - as of Noon today (4-7-2020) -my State of 1.8 million people has 412 confirmed cases with 4 deaths (all had other contribution complications).
For this, we have killed our economy and now, I have been told I have to move my Municipal Election from June 2 to June 30. Sigh!
