Must be my day. Looking for rates for 2018, going to save up for trip.
Wanted to negotiate rate from (minimum $150) down to $90. I tried offering locations that actually charge less than that but she wanted me to come down to her price.
Said she'd call back in two years 'when the economy tanks and you need the money'.
"You're all too expensive. I've called all of you. Nobody will dicker with me."
Not sure I want two years looking forward to that stay!

LOL Yep it is your day!
On the flip side, the dollar could tank and a loaf of bread could cost what your room costs now.

I guess it is a good thing that she is saving for the trip!

You Lol later laugh and hang up then put her name if you got it on your no book list. Grrrr tell her to go to air And tell her you won't be holding your breath waiting for her to call in 2 years

And I suppose the airline and the gas station and the grocery store are going to dicker with her. Dicker is for Flea Markets and Garage Sales.
I spent 30 minutes on the phone yesterday with a woman who was looking at 5 nights in my bargain room (it is as nice as anything else, just has less floor space with the queen bed) and was hoping for a cheaper rate. I doubt if I will hear from her again - the call ended with the usual "I will talk it over with....." Find something this nice even with a private bathroom (it is a shared for that room) for less than $115 per night WITH breakfast that will include routes to the best roads and things to see.

I couldn't even offer her a rate. We don't take reservations that far ahead.

I must admit I started planning and saving for our NE trip in 1984 with the trip scheduled for August 1986. I had asked my boss in 1983 if I saved up a month of vacation time (we did not have a use it or lose it) could I take it all at once. I was told "with enough notice".
January 1984 I told the boss, August 1986 I am on vacation the whole month. January 1985, I told the boss, August of 1986 I am gone for the month. January 1986, there was a letter on his desk requesting August 1986 as vacation.
Then 2-days before my vacation started, Daddy decided to go to ICU with pneumonia (he was on the route for the trip). Turned out OK. 5 days later he was in a regular room, was not cooperating with where he was going when he got out - so we continued with the trip. He quit smoking and died 10 years later at my house. To this day, I do not know how the boss put down the day we left town but I did not lose a day of pay.

Good grief, how does she even know you will still be in business? It amazes me that some people think they are doing a big favor to stay multiple nights at a rediculous discount.
I don't want reservations on our books that far in advance. It never fails that they are the cancellations that come in just under the wire of the cancellation fee.

I had one like that. He wanted me to take $15. They are usually from 3rd world countries, have attitudes, but sounds like yours was from this country.
I think we are better off without them!

We just can't please all the people all of the time. I had someone complain because they didn't have a refrigerator in the room. We are not a motel. These people are spoiled brats and don't deserve a nice room in a B&B because they don't appreciate it.
They are Motel 6 crowd and so I tell them I don't have availability but give them the
number of Motel 6 to call. (They don't know it's Motel 6 when I give them the number) hehehe!!! I just say call this number and they may be able to accommodate you. They thank me and say God Bless!

Just love it when they say they called everybody else first. That really wins them points with me. Not.

We did just get a booking for July 2017. No arguments about the rate, either.

UPDATE - she booked! I gave them a route to get here that should hold them until we get back from the motorcycle event (assuming my plane is on time) and all foes well. She asked about another location that is in Virginia (looked it up on the Internet) and told her how she could do that on the way home. JB, you are out of the way too far. I tried.
I gave links to the place she wanted and to a B & B on the way there, routed her from there to the location and then a route back home. One stop shop. Checked their availability & price and left it there.
So grateful to Daddy for teaching me how to read a map as soon as I knew my numbers. It also helps that I have been all over this wonderful State of mine.

We have a few people who book that far out but I say I can't tell you the price that far out - they are coming for particular conferences they know are super busy and if you don't get your foot in the door then you don't get anything so are out of the gate booking as soon as they know.

I might give discount for tonight, maybe tomorrow night if I've got an empty room, but I'm not doing it for two years ahead especially if it's a busy time of year.
And I'm certainly not going out of my way to take a booking that far ahead with that attitude.

That is fair enough.
But anyone booking way far in advance usually says "What? I never made a reservation with you!" And so it goes, we take them 11 mo's in advance and no further.

in 2 years everyone's rates are going to jump way up because we will be trying to find ways to pay our help $15 an hour. :(
