I just received an email through our local chamber of commerce from a woman offering to advertise for us in exchange for a room. There is a conference at the end of the month which we are marketing to and I believe that's why she's targeting us. We've only owned this B&B for a month & a half, so we're eager for advertising opportunities.
She's offered advertising with backlinks on 5 different travel websites, banner ads on two and a write-up feature for April on one of them all to run for 6 months ending in September. However, her websites are very low budget, have little to no content and two of them are for non-adjacent states. She claims that the sites are brand new and she's developing content. I researched her email address and found that she's very active in her community and shows up on numerous other websites related to our conference topic.
Pros -
Thank you!

Pros -
- Multiple backlinks will increase our website page ranking
- We will be the only advertiser on a few of the pages making us VERY visible to visitors
- We can use her write-up for other advewrtising opportunities (ie: Facebook)
- She could be a great word-of-mouth referral source
- Her websites probably don't have much traffic
- Her writing skills aren't very impressive (for the write-up)
- What if it's all a ruse to get free rooms & meals? Her websites state that she only lists places that she's stayed at or eaten at so she can recommend them.
- We are hoping to get the Inn full during this conference, so it's very possible that we could get paying guests in those rooms.
- How do we decline and keep from getting bad press from her since she'll be in town for the conference anyways?
Thank you!
