6 pm. Doorbell rings I go to answer it. By the time I got to the door, 30 feet away, guest was back in the parking lot, halfway to the car.
He must have run down the stairs.
I didn't answer fast enough is what he said. He thought everyone was gone for the day because the door was locked.
Wound very tight. Phone is turned up so loud I can hear the other person talking to him.

My evening door sign says "please allow me time to get a robe and slippers before you drive away" for the folks that expected me to be sitting in the office all night. Some folks are just impatient.

I need to put up sign when I am not in the office - Please give him time to get up, get his crutches, and get to the door before you leave.
A surprising number of people think they can just turn the knob and enter. A business does not keep the door locked, perish the thought!

I watched sometime cranking on the doorknob today. Rang the bell then stood there wrenching the lever up and down.
And I got one of those shoulder shrugs and 'finally' mouthed at me thru the window.

We are rarely in our office during the day. We usually leave a sign out that says: "We are on the property.... somewhere. Ring the bell like you mean it! (It's a big property!) or phone XXX-XXX-XXXX -- Tim and Wendy"

I see this is a old comment but still a problem here. About 50% of door bell ringers walk away before I get to the door. I don't understand the thought process here (why ring the bell at all) just call me. Oh that's a problem also as most don't read the Confirmation I send them. I now see I have to have a sign maker make signs at doors, also room signs . I'll get on it.........

I have a sign on front and back - please be aware that this is a big house and it does take a minute to answer the door. - or my personal favourite ring the bell then hide behind the wall so I cant see you and think you have walked away.

What about a remotely operated door lock with a camera, you can see them on your smartphone and then buzz them in....? (surely all or our inns are equipped with such technology!) ;-)

Common sense doesn't seem to be a trait for many of our guests.

90% try to open the door, about 40% of those try tugging on the door like the lock is going to give. All this with a sign smack in their face saying to please ring bell... with an arrow pointing to the button.
The previous B&B in town had a sign "ring bell and wait"

Not a good listener as we found out this AM. Guest was told where to find coffee and cereal for an early departure. What in fridge was for everyone and that everything else 'belongs to other guests'.
Saw guest leaving drinking bottled juice. Yup. Cleaned out guest fridge and took someone else's bottles of cold juice.
Because, sure. There are 4 of you and I only put out enough juice for 2. Makes sense.
Then, poor elderly guest who had the juice saved up for his ride home had to do without.
This after waking me up several times by slamming the door to their room. (Door closers are back on my forgotten list of to do!)

I can't remember the system and app but my friend manages a new inn here and she can be made be miles away when someone rings the buzzer and she can see them on her phone. If they are expected she can buzz them in and they already have the key code to get them in their room.

I could just have yelled out the window if I knew he was walking away. He was that close!

I stayed at an inn in ATL that had this setup. Cameras at front and back doors. Worked very well.
