They always think I am nuts.
A guest this morning was born and raised in Wa State, near Longview Wa. (Skamakawa I mentioned you to them today as well you are only 30-40 minutes from there) and anyway...I mentioned the name of a lady who I used to know there with an unusual name, and the reply was "it is a big place you know" and I said yes, I know.
Their brother lives on Friday Harbor, and they met at Univ of Wa where my niece graduated last year. Anyway...all that to say there was nothing to report, they just thought I was a nutter. Which I am. But we have had WAY smaller world alerts from bigger cities and continents in fact! :)
Back to your regular programming now. Wait there's more...so of all 50 states, this couple lives in PA. I made them something that my Aunt used to serve all the time at Humphrey's by the Bay in San Diego. I took a photo and sent it to her before discovering this Wa State Connection - my aunt lives in Gig Harbor Wa.
I am just sharing this, coincidence, maybe maybe not. To me it was, and is. You can go to our fb page if you are wondering what it was that I served. It was yummy too.

(I cannot access fb from work.)
But anyway, I always throw out a name. Why not? I generally start with, "I only know one person from there and I'm going to go for it. Do you know....."
Sometimes, they do. Why not ask, right?

My mother was in New York once, and was talking to my dad in the hotel elevator. On hearing mom's accent, another woman asked, "Where are you from?"
"Arkansas," my mother answered.
"I have a friend in Nebraska," the woman responded. "Maybe you know her."
On the other had, we were in a small antique shop once, on the outskirts of a small town in Belgium. While there we ran across a couple from a town just 20 miles from our home in Arkansas! Small world indeed!

First laugh of the day! Good one :) Along those same lines, when I tell people that I go back to Nebraska on vacation sometimes, the first question is "Oh, do you have family there?" Because, well...there just isn't much vacationing to do in Nebraska!

Ha ha. Ten extra points if you pronounced "Skamokawa" like the locals. Guests this morning asked the pronunciation of the county: "Wahkiakum", the county seat: "Cathlamet" and "Skamokawa": the town where they are staying.
As you might guess: the names are a promotions nightmare. :)
"wah-KIYA-kum"
cath-LAA-met"
"skuh-MOCK-away"

Scam-o-cow-a.
My daughter lived in Skaneateles. Skinny atlees.

every time I had to type it on a page, I questioned how it was spoken. You can't imagine how many variations i came up with :)

Was standing at the top of the Eiffel Tower and met a couple from the town we flew in from. go figure...
