Dear Mother Murphy,
I probably shoulda thunk before I microwaved those collard greens…an half-hour before check in.
Signed, innkeeper at the stinky inn

Oh no! Open a door and stick a fan in the doorway blowing outside and it will help the smell to leave the kitchen without traveling through the house…. here every smell goes up…. all four floors!

Hope you had some buttered cornbread with those greens.

hahaha
Throw cookies into the oven (well, don't throw them, bake them)
Simmer some cloves in water on the stove
One Thanksgiving I had guests last minute as we were actually closed. I was roasting a turkey early and they came down the stairs in a trance, seriously. Was like cooking bacon.

Hope you had some buttered cornbread with those greens..

Hahahaha! I few months ago my mom decide she would make some corn beef and cabbage. I have no idea why she decided to make it in our kitchen at the INN. She has her own kitchen at home. I showed up about 20 min before check in. I opened the door and he smell about knocked me down. I was like "What in the He#@ is that smell?" With a smile she explained what she was cooking. I had to do our checkins out in the parking lot until the smelly candles kicked in. I laugh about it now but at the time it was not funny. It smelled horrible!

Ugh. Reminds me of the time DH got it into his brain that he would fry capelin* in my nicely seasoned cast iron pan right after check out time. Pee U ( at least that's what I thought) I could smell it all day, right into check in time. First guest comes in and asks " are you cooking capelin?" Thank goodness she was a transplanted Newf and it actually brought back fond memories.
Not my kind of memory but to each his own.
(* capelin are a small saltwater fish that are about the size of a smelt. Smells like the ocean when it's cooked.Principal food of whales but cod eat them too. Good for us!)

Poppa makes the best collards ever!! No apologizing!.

Really, I didn't know that about him. These were pretty awesome leftovers, with bacon and seasoned just right. But upstairs they didn't smell quite as good as they were eating them. haha

.
Yes, he uses bacon too. His mom grew up in Oklahoma with Tennessee roots! His Dad in Southern Illinois with Augusta County Virginia roots! Collards are this year's kale!

She didn't want the smell in her place, maybe?
