Walk ins who had a problem with the exchange rate not being in their favor. Should I upcharge when the exc rate is not in MY favor? And wondering if they tried that at the restaurant, too?

I've had far fewer complaints about the exchange rate than I rightfully should, being just 6 miles from the Canadian border. That said, my numbers show they just aren't coming, rather than showing up and wanting some type of discount.
And no, I didn't upcharge them 4 years ago when their C$ was stronger than ours, of course. Just the way things are.
(On the plus side, when Mrs. Phineas and I go to dinner in Quebec, we enjoy our 20% American discount)

Even our repeats haven't shown up this year.

We got three groups from Canada so far. Our two fellows went on a cruise to the Caribbean this year instead. Left a review on Facebook from their last stay… When they were here last year they left 5 star reviews everywhere they could think of. We are still finding them…

We are heading to QC next week. Looking forward to living like a king and queen on the discount!

I have no idea who or where they are. If any QC innkeepers see this send me a message...a face-to-face would be a hoot!

We've had those who have asked us if we can drop the HST (tax) to bring down the bill!! Oh, and we also have travellers from the US who want a discount... even though they're already getting one with the exchange rate. I have a tip for those who are travelling and cannot afford it... stay home!

Drop the HST? What, they think it's optional? Give them the phone number to RC and ask them to negotiate with them. If they can get RC to give them a discounted rate, I'm all in.

This goes along with, 'we'll pay cash, just forget the sales tax,' wink wink.
I've asked if they have something in their eye.

So then, at breakfast today, we're talking about things to do today. They're all set, they're going to look at a couple of vintage airplanes to add to their collection.
Give me strength.

Are you sure they are not from NY?

That's why they needed the discount….. More money for airplanes.

That's why they have money - because they have no problem taking it from the rest of the hard working people out there. People with money rarely want to pay full price. Hopefully the guy selling the vintage airplane doesn't give them any break.

I've had several guests like that: Badger us on rates and then talk about their vintage seaplanes and boats. Just amazing.
