    Hawaii B&B discrimination lawsuit

Touchy subject??? How exactly is discrimination by an innkeeper a touchy subject? The last thing we need to do is put a veil over the very important issues around our responsibilities in serving the public.

Guests with dietary restrictions and snacks.

Got it! Here's the on track answer- no we do not provide warnings about the snacks we provide.

Guests with dietary restrictions and snacks.

Well, let's see... single night guest.... means limits to what we can do.... but even with advance notice... we are focused on making their breakfast special and not focused on the snacks we provide. I would say that most of our guests that have a real and significant dietary restriction are...

Living the Dream of Owning a B&B

The question is, "What kind of work do you enjoy?" The first innkeeper enjoys innkeeping as a line of work. He's got a passion for the work. It's the sort of work he can sink his teeth into. Glad to see he made it work.

    Stop helping me.

That's really all it takes. Stay away from cynical stuff and sarcasm, put the humor on yourself and the danger of offending a guest is almost zero. I would go so far to say that it contributes to the, "How DO you do handle all of this with a smile. I could never do that." factor: AND I am not...

    Stop helping me.

LOVE IT! I think it is kinda funny how some humor totally gets the serious point across.

    Stop helping me.

We nip it in the bud the very moment we see the helping behavior. Humor has always worked. "There's an extra fee for helping." "What would my mother say" "I don't get to have a cocktail this evening if I don't clear the table." ETC

Lets make a point to Trip Advisor

Despite the fact that we have used Trip Advisor to benefit our business and we have been very pleased with those results, customer service needs for U.S. accomodations that pay to list their information are not being addressed adequately. It's just a matter of time before the "netflix" syndrome...

    Online Webinar

Thanks JB That's kinda what I was thinking. I was looking at PAII and the membership levels and wondered whether all those webinars you can look at would be worth reviewing for a hundred bucks. I saw they had two things offered at the top. One says it's free for Gold members- the other doesn't...

Why your hard work isn’t working

I agree. If you are hitting a wall and don't know where to turn, a professional expert can help. I also think you are correct that hiring the right professional is the key. My experience with marketing up to this point is that there are a handful of folks who really know how to help you and a...

Why your hard work isn’t working

First off- my apologies for writing in snippets. I absolutely agree that we should really be focused and avoid dabbling. I just think the real sloution for that is to educate myself and not to rush out and hire a professional, which is what this article was really pushing me to do. I'll go back...

Why your hard work isn’t working

I really do agree with that. When I read the first bit, I was nodding my head in agreement. Knowing when to change course, when to cut your losses, when to take the flag down.... It's when I went to the next link about killing your business that my eyes rolled back into my head. I thought it was...

    Online Webinar

Thanks for the feedback. So would you say that the value was limited if you have decided not to continue? Did what you learn increase your revenue or profit? Was it "general information" that required you to figure out implementation? There are so many "e-perts" out their that lead you down an...

Why your hard work isn’t working

Interesting and yet....a boat full of holes...given to you free.. from a boat repairman. Wouldn't it be just so easy if all we had to do was hire a professional and stop dabbling.

    Online Webinar

HHHHMMMM...thought some of our convention goers might have tried the PAII online stuff and would have some feedback. I have only done some online training with bedandbreakfast.com and I found it a bit limited. The thought of signing up is fading... perhaps it's catchy titles and not a lot of meat.

    Online Webinar

My experience with webinars has not been all that great, but I am always looking for ways to increase bed and breakfast specific marketing knowledge. Have you taken online classes through PAII? What was the value? What were the challenges? Do you have an opportunity for post event questions?

    betterway website snafu?

I just tried again and it worked fine. Maybe it was down? Wouldn't that give you an error message though. Just seemed odd to be redirected to one of those generic keyword websites instead. Oh well. Thanks for checking.

    Guest Amenities

Being we have a certain fancy for the whiskeys of Scotland, I think we would have used it as well.
