A Reintroduction--It's Great to Be Back

    All good here, we’ve retired!

    Free rooms - discuss.

@Arks they just never see it that way! I was always being asked to donate two night stays, while everyone else could give a voucher for $25 off. One time a well-dressed woman came to the door looking for a two-nighter for a local private school. I offered a gift basket of local products...

A Reintroduction--It's Great to Be Back

Sounds like you’ve got a lot of arrows to your quiver. That really helps when life happens. Glad you’ve discovered you enjoy what you’re doing!

Took me long enough to figure this one out

We had that all summer. We were halfway to Bar Harbor. We got a lot of people trying to book one night on a Friday so they could get to their rental house early on Saturday. Um, no.

I’ve also turned that one down.

Our experience with ‘free:’ A blogger who was referred to us by our town marketing group. She got everything free—room, dinners, outdoor experiences. She and her husband trashed the room. When she got home she called and asked me a bunch of questions and then wrote a blog saying we were...

Why would you do this and why would you fail to mention it?

You need an override! A thermostat controlled by an app on your phone. That’s ridiculous! (Altho, we’re away at a funeral this weekend and Gomez turned on the A/C in our room when it was 55 degrees outside. Open the window!!!)

    Flannel sheets?

Who is your market? I loved the Bean flannel sheets in my 40’s. Now the thought of flannel sheets makes me sweat.

    Next year!

I can totally sympathize. It always seemed like the guests we did the most for in re advance prep for their breakfast were the ones who left without eating. I think the worst tho, were the guests who went out the door saying they’d be right back and then returned with bags of food from Starbucks

    Can’t remember the exact quote

Ha ha ha! That’s not my expression, it’s a friend’s.

This year's guests have left more tips than ever.

Happy people are showing their thanks in a tangible way! We recently realized there is no longer any chance of tips coming our way. We used to keep them in a ‘fun’ envelope to use to go out for dinner.

My bucket of nice is almost empty.

Why would you do this and why would you fail to mention it?

Some of our A/C units stayed installed all year because they were ‘through the wall’ instead of in the windows. They had insulated covers over them. Many, many times in November we found the covers taken off. Open the frigging window if you want cold air! There’s plenty outside! However, some...

Hotels moving away from daily cleanings...

I had a guest peering around the door at me at noon, exactly eye level with the check out sign on his side of the door, telling me he had no idea check out was at 11. 🙄

We told them at check in and again at breakfast, it was also on the website when you made a reservation. ‘For your protection and ours, we will not be going in your room to clean. If you need anything, just ask.’

    Another diet story

I get that. I didn’t want to know someone’s trials and tribulations, but you can’t keep throwing issues at us in the morning and expecting we can pivot.

    Another diet story

We used to get so many of those I had to really sit the guest down and say, ‘exactly what is it you can’t eat?’

Hotels moving away from daily cleanings...

I was more concerned about my health than a few stained carpets or sheets! The tough part was we had relatively no work for our housekeeper. We kept encouraging him to go on unemployment, but you have to show you made a minimum amount the previous year and he just didn’t have the hours being PT...

They figured out last year how much money they saved!
