How necessary are in text links?

Google does. (sites that want people to move through lots of content swiftly use them) I would also argue that all links should respond with an underline when hovered, regardless of the other style treatment they get on hover. The other issue since most are going responsive now, is to consider...

How necessary are in text links?

Links should stand out as different than ordinary text. The do exist for humans and SEO. The benefit to both is not mutually exclusive. People do read, as much as we assume they don't, and they do follow links in the body copy. Styling them, style them using your css file, not using the...

    Bots Attacking WP

I highly recommend the plugin "WP Better Security" Very powerful... checks and alters "admin" as well as ~30 other vulnerabilities. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/better-wp-security/ Also EmptyNest, for sites that are not yours, this plugin can force your clients to have to use strong...

    Another website geek question

If that content is even similarly elsewhere, 301 redirect it to that new location... even if what was once a full page is now just a paragraph on some other page. History is the one thing you can't buy back so it is best to preserve it if you can. I, of course, would ask why get rid of a...

    How fussy is Google?

No, the way you would know is to check it on your server. Go to a page that you know is working, then swap in a cap somewhere in the path. If it gives you an page not found (404 error) then you know the current configuration is case sensitive. (worst) If it delivers the same page, but the cap...

    How fussy is Google?

This is kind of a moot point. A linux based machine has a case sensitive file system. No real way around that. But what controls how it behaves when it serves files to the web is the server software and its configuration.

    How fussy is Google?

The domain name is not case sensitive, but subsequent pages within the site may be. Example: Apache ( a common web server) is case sensitive out of the box. So a request for mydomain.com/pageone serves up a different page than mydomain.com/PageOne The server treats it as a separate page, so...

    MOBILE METER

That particular test is pretty flawed. I suggest these alternatives. http://mattkersley.com/responsive/ http://iphone4simulator.com/ http://iphone5simulator.com/

This is starting to get depressing :-(

Ok so this one sucked me in a bit. My story, I built one from the ground up, ran it for 9 years, got out (and was lucky to sell it). I'm kind of into logic so here are the glaring problems with the logic of what you are dreaming to do. Unless it is your wife and friend's DREAM too, you will...

    Photo software?

You can airbrush or or rubber stamp things out of photos in Gimp. Its not too bad. I switched to it a while back. I'm on Ubuntu now and enjoying not having to worry about software prices.

    Hack Warning!!!

Very similar emails are coming from Facebook based connections. I often get email like those "check this out" followed by some non-sense link. The from name is from someone in your facebook friends group, but the email address is always something bogus as they can't get the person's actual...

    Spell checker needs tweaking!

The spell checker is the free version of a rather expensive service... I don't know if they keep a few annoying entries like cancellation just to remind you of its "free-ness" It is also interesting that right clicking on it and selecting "add word" doesn't seem to last beyond the page that...

Diabetes, needles & insulin shots at the breakfast table

Insulin Dependent Diabetic here. Been that way since I was three. Modesty in shot giving is admirable... but at the same time when you are used to giving 3-4/day, 1,400/year, 14,000/decade, 84,000/lifetime .... you see how the numbers add up. Modesty doesn't have to go out the window... but...

    New forum text editor

The text shortcuts for the old custom smileys can be found here https://www.innspiring.com/faqs-innkeeper near the bottom of the page. THis is not the final smiley solution, but it works for now :)

    New forum text editor

Just above the editor you should see a text link that says "Smileys" If you click on that you will see our old smileys, and you can just drag the one you want down into the editor. The text shortcuts for smileys should also still work. Let me test that now too ;) :) **** :(

    New forum text editor

Okay I have made some tweaks and it is predominantly working. The spellcheck button has gone away and it now does it as you type... it should also pick up your language by location and adjust its spelling dictionary (untested) Image placement now works. I think connecting up the old smileys is...
